Sure sounds a bit like a certain New Jersey rocker who was born to run and also tackled the topic of the workingman's plight, both before and after he made it big. Take that example to heart, Sam Roberts Band. Tycoon and rebel? If you do it right, you can be both.

Collider has plenty of commercial sheen, but Roberts has lost some of the scrappy directness of his best work.

With Collider, Roberts proves himself an essential part of the R&R landscape.

It's an easy listen, a friendly collection of solid journeyman jams and a decent starting place for the uninitiated.

Often he's trying too hard to be cool, and it's unconvincing. When it does work, the band sounds surprisingly like Broken Social Scene, but with more cowbell.
