Although a handful of dated, unimaginative instrumentals drag down Déjà Vu's momentum, Moroder has always been more of a singles artist.

Regardless of the overall quality, it’s nearly impossible to resist the urge to dance. And in that, Déjà Vu succeeds.

    The results are hit-or-miss.

Despite its unevenness, at its best Déjà-Vu is an entertaining return from a dance music legend looking to translate his style into something that isn't overly familiar.

The desire is there for more of that visionary spirit--though the suspicion lingers that with everything just simply too available, Moroder no longer has the focus and inspiration that fired his finest work.

An album that plays too safe in its thirst for hits. [Jul 2015, p.110]

For every decent chorus, there is a moment where Moroder falls victim to his own vast influence.

Moroder's first album in 30 years consists largely of generic pop-dance. [Jul 2015, p.80]

Deja Vu reminds the listener of something, all right: every other song currently playing, as Donna Summer once sang, on the radio.

Expecting Moroder to reach the heights of "I Feel Love" is, of course, futile, and yes, after a few repeated plays you may find the odd track or two that stand out from the rest, but there’s little you’ll love to love here.

It's not completely unfair to say that Déjà Vu won't be joining the pantheon of great albums any time soon.

The aggressive push into overblown choruses drowns the warmth and personality of his production work.

The songs are weak, the sounds cheesily overfamiliar and a slightly second-rate string of collaborators (he wanted Lady Gaga and Rihanna but settled for Kylie Minogue and Britney Spears) fail to sprinkle the beats with any magic.

A fond indulgence, perhaps, but there’s nothing on Déjà Vu that will take your breath away like “I Feel Love.”

Déjà Vu could have been Moroder’s own Random Access Memories, which had guest vocalists all pulling together to create a masterpiece. Instead, it’s just a bit random.

"Deja Vu" is exactlyPleasant freshness survived to the 2000's/2010's musical revolution, but still tuned on what is the modern electropop. "Deja Vu" is exactly what makes you dance, both whether you are young or elderly. The inevitable collaboration with pop artists of high level makes it even more captivating.
Some elements, such as the guitar-loop or the bubbling basses might therefore become slightly pushy with their spread well disguised in all the album, which was still a bit monochrome in some points. Luckily, only-instrumental tracks help to avoid this problem. They are intelligently put at the beginning (4 U With Love), in the middle (74 Is The New 24) and at the end (La Disco). On the other hand, when you are 74 and you're working and producing for Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Dev and Charli XCX you can definitely call your life complete.

    Best tracks:

    Deja Vu ft. Sia
I do this for you ft. Marlene
Right Here, Right Now ft. Kylie Minogue
