On their fifth LP Discontinued Perfume this is true again. They're not doing anything all that differently, yet it seems like a giant step forward, and their best album yet.

This is one of the reasons it's important to approach Discontinued Perfume as a full album, intentionally put together in a certain order. The Caribbean have never been what you'd call a singles act anyway, but here you need to take in the whole picture the band is painting.

On their sixth album, the Caribbean find themselves in perhaps their strongest sonic mode yet.

Ultimately, the hushed tones of the contemplative indie-twee The Caribbean weave on Discontinued Perfume is moderately pleasing yet unspectacular.

Discontinued Perfume has a net effect, despite its potpourri. Still, I wish they'd let some of their ideas out to roam a little more.
