    Unlike a deadmau5 or Skrillex, Van Dyk can only do his one style, and by the time the album is two-thirds over, you're already ready for him to mix out. [#86, p.59]

    Think "winning formula" instead of "formulaic" and you're close to the value of Evolution, which along with Ferry Corsten's equally great WKND makes "trance ain't dead" the unofficial motto of 2012.

    Not everything on Evolution is so sharply focused; the album's middle section especially, feels larded with the kind of big-room sound-scaping Van Dyk can probably punch up in his sleep at this point.
