The band prove just as adept at these more subdued and sad songs as they do at the uptempo rockers and the blending of the two styles and tones makes for a fascinating record. It's certainly more complicated, both musically and emotionally, and shows the band growing in interesting ways.

Their lyrics are just as endearing as ever, with delicious moments like England’s confession on the title track that she’s “eating dinner for breakfast because first impressions are always the best.”

When it works, as it does particularly well on Should've and Doesn't Matter, the results are impressive. But Throughout, Falling is Never less than commendable. [27 Jul 2019, p.57]

Over the course of 13 songs, though, Dude York wind up mimicking their idols as opposed to referencing them.

Lyrically and production-wise, Falling, bar a couple of moments, fails to catch the imagination in a crowded field.
