Apr 30, 2019Watching this band evolve is pure joy. And with budding rumors of a second 2019 release, King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard seem to be continuing to push boundaries even further.
-
MojoMay 1, 2019This time around, the Gizz's experiments have resulted in a compelling macrame of blues, rock, electronica, country and more besides. [Jun 2019, p.90]
-
UncutApr 26, 2019Fishing For Fishies encapsulates many of their musical charms, foregrounds their deeper lyrical concerns and also shows they don't need to rely on gimmicks to get their point across. [Jun 2019, p.25]
-
Apr 26, 2019Fishing For Fishies is their most accessible and immediate album to date.
-
Apr 26, 2019Fishing for Fishies is the freest the band have sounded in a while, and the record is all the better for it.
-
Apr 26, 2019Once again, King Gizzard deliver a record that lives up to their high standard even though it (mostly) is free from ambition and drama.
-
Classic Rock MagazineMay 3, 2019This thirteenth album finds them starting to sound like a band who deserve the billing [at Alexandra Palace]. [Jun 2019, p.85]
-
Apr 26, 2019Closer ‘Cyboogie’, the cheesy, sci-fi-inspired lead single from the LP, is by far the most tepid of the set, as if marking the roll of the end-credits and a collective sigh of relief. With that being said, do not doubt that King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard still know how to kick ass.
-
Q MagazineMay 14, 2019Here they lean too heavily on space-age boogie-rock. [Jul 2019, p.110]
-
May 2, 2019While calling Fishing For Fishies stale at first may be a bit harsh, it becomes pronounced once you consider the adventurous image King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard has carved out for itself over the last five years. With this passive listening experience, rarely was I ever intrigued by the band’s songwriting.
-
Apr 30, 2019Certainly, the shift from the humanity and warmth of blues-rock to the synthetic robotics of electronic music is intentional, but the album ends too abruptly for one to clearly discern the full extent of its significance.
-
Apr 26, 2019It’s a shame to see a band with such clear skill and experimental prowess release an album as doltish as Fishing for Fishies, especially considering that, not so long ago, they managed to release five good albums in a single year. There is very little joy involved in listening to these nine songs.
