An album absolutely bursting with powerchord pop riffs driving home a ten track album in about 25 minutes. Musically it is early 90's classic indie rock. For me it brings the Pixies sound of "Trompe Le Monde" to mind with a bit of Weezer thrown in (or that vintage). Lyrically, it's a bit weird and quirky but then aren't all the interesting ones. For me it brings the Pixies sound of "Trompe Le Monde" to mind with a bit of Weezer thrown in (or that vintage). Lyrically, it's a bit weird and quirky but then aren't all the interesting ones. Themes range from silly to serious and back again. It might be raw but it's got a real melodic quality and is easy to listen to. Expand

At odds with the folk-pop quirk of her 2012 debut Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose and the angular, raw and rocky approach of albums two and three. [Jun 2021, p.85]

It genuinely is a fabulous album full of vim and vigour, from the celebratory burp that opens the album on the effervescent lip curling fuzz pop of “Pull the Plug” to the “tears at prom night vibe” (musically at least) on the gorgeous album closer “Take Me Away.”

What the streamlined sound of ‘Homecoming’ lacks in broad musical scope, it more than makes up for in attitude.
