  1. A compelling and touching record.

She comes over like Tammy Wynette crossed with Parker Posey--an indie queen with a Kentucky twang. [Aug 2006, p.101]
  3. Pop fans will think it's a country album, country purists will deem it pop and contributions from friends in both Stars and Broken Social Scene adds a conflicting rock slant. What's not in doubt is that Millan makes it work.
  4. Tombs doesn’t smack of inauthenticity--you just find yourself wishing that she’d had gone whole-hog into her Nashville play. [Summer 2006]

Millan's Honey From The Tombs more than satisfies with its folk/country (yes, more folk than country) melodies and her trademark vocals. While a few of these songs could have fit someone with a more grizzled voice better, with her voice, that's a minor complaint. The more alternative-oriented "Skinny Boy," "Headsfull," and "All the Miles" add variety. Believe the hype! Expand

This is one of the most consistently good albums I've heard this year. Lovely stuff.
