There are no real standout tracks, it is a four song EP after all and electronica has a slight tendency to blend into one long reverby track. But as a piece, it moves so softly, so deep and so colourful.

Great production flourishes dominate, with horns and steady percussion rising out of the mix to provide the listener with an enveloping atmosphere. [No.87, p.53]

Hoyas, sounds like a soundtrack for an ice-slicked, insomniac winter drive. Blending mumbled folk and bleary-eyed blips, lead-off track "Two Angles" sounds like the Postal Service might have if Jimmy Tamborello's tapes had gotten lost in the mail and accidentally ended up on Phil Elverum's doorstep.

Hoyas sounds slick, monochromatic and even a bit stale.

Forcing a similar style [as heard on All We Grow] through a filter of laptop presets and masked vocals only highlights how those convenient, but more limited, tools require tighter songwriting than Carey musters up on Hoyas.

Hoyas doesn't lack depth, but it's over-simplified. It's a hesitant musical effort, and quite forgettable when compared to Carey's debut, All We Grow.
