For a while I was with a lot of the people giving this 5's and 6's, thinking it seems a little bland and easy-going. But something clicked at one point, and In Rainbows just started flowing like silk. For me, despite it's high reviews, Hail to the Thief was a real letdown. A lot of it sounded disjointed, angry and cynical... a band that was exhausted of ideas and not particularly enjoying music-making anymore. I was worried Thom Yorke was getting a bit far up his arse about the environment and all that before this release. Thankfully, In Rainbows largely avoids all this political bollux, and they have concentrated on making music (as lame as this sounds) 'from the heart'. In Rainbows does not have any soaring guitar solos or dark electronic noodlings. It seems well textured and multi-layered instead and, though it's hard to explain why, I think lyrically this is one of the band's best yet. I can still see why some deem it average, but for me the album eventually broke through. I'm not a Radiohead nut by any means but many bands that go this long seem to slowly shrivel up and die after a while. I thought this would happen here after Hail to The Thief but it hasn't. The whole point in this lame, corny message is just to say if you are disappointed by this release on first few impressions... there is something much deeper here that's worth sticking around for. To my ears, this is the best Radiohead album yet. This is where the ability to experiment and the ability to write a great melody intertwine to create a masterpiece that is not only ahead of its time, but is a classic that will hold up when all is said an done. This album makes you wonder how these guys can possibly get any better?

This album is wonderful! I am a great fan of "Kid A" and this sounds sooo different... (maybe someone could find it more related to "The Bends" or "OK Computer") I definitely love it and it keeps growing. It's so warm, so real, so full of energy and of emotions...

All of the hoople over the unconventional release method may overshadow this album's true brilliance. Radiohead's songwriting has returned to Ok Computer-Kid A era strength, but their style continues to evolve. Given enough time, this album may rank amongst not only Radiohead's greatest, but the greatest of the decade.

Radiohead is probably the best living band right now. They had a great run and I am glad they finally came out with an album after the long wait after "Hail to the Theif". To be honest, I think Thom Yorke's "The Eraser" was a bit more enjoyable. This new album has many decent songs and a few really good ones like 15 Step and Bodysnatchers. I don't know what's wrong with the people who didn't give this album the same score I did. But they are not like me and therefore must have something wrong with them. Why people have different impressions of something when it is clearly easily categorized in the world-view affirming context of my own ego is beyond me. I have been listening to this album for the better part of 2 days, and I seem to want to go back and listen to it again. Lyrically, it doesn't seem as complex as OK and Kid, but musically, there isn't a weak moment on here. This is one of the more understated albums they have made, and actually has a flow to it that makes you avoid going to the skip function. This may not be a "classic", but definitely a strong showing from a strong band. As well, the marketing plan for this album is one of the most creative and ingenious moves by their part. It is almost a "thank you" from the band to all their fans who have supported them all these years. They probably know that most that have downloaded the album will turn around and purchase it afterwards as well, but to offer it at "your price" is definitely fan friendly! Expand

The band seems to have finally folded under the hysterical pressure of the music press and rigid rock fans that can't distinguish quality from familiarity to produce a generic rock album. It's well crafted, masterfull, and boring

A decent outing, although lacking the innovation and creativity of "OK Computer" or "Kid A." Definitely more focused and refined than "Hail to the Thief." "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" is one of their best songs ever.

Great marketing idea, but at the end of the day it is really just another Radiohead album. Thats okay though. I do like the more minimal approach here though. A solid listen and I approve.

An album built on moments, the brilliance and the frequency of which carry this piece of work far enough for me. Suprisingly soulful. This is about as upbeat as radiohead get.

Very sweet. Nice, nice textures. I only wish the down loadable version had more clarity to it so that the listener could delve further into the more subtle tones and rhythms.

Beautifully dark and brooding. It has great potential, and may even top OK Computer, which God knows that's gonna be hard to do. Great effort.

A good album. By no means the band's best, it seems that, given the length of time it took to arrive, and the method of its release, the press had already decided this was going to be great. And it is, but all these 'return to form' or 'best album since OK Computer' reviews are ignoring the fact that Radiohead made three interesting and diverse albums after that. A good album. Radiohead's 7th album seems like the third act in their experimental electronic soundscape (following KID A and Amnesiac). The album is more grower than shower, but still delivers amazing quality tracks. Download: Nude, House of Cards, Videotape.

While, in my eyes, it doesn't live up to all its praise, it's still a wonderful album. The poppier sound and the warmer guitars make the album feel so vibrant, especially on the opener. The album does get a bit less interesting as it goes on, but it keeps Radiohead's amazing consistency. The lyricism is also extremely strong, as to be expected, and Thom's vocals are at a career-high.While, in my eyes, it doesn't live up to all its praise, it's still a wonderful album. lacks any pretense: their aesthetic is organic and fluid, indicating a band that responds honestly and artistically to circumstance, rather than one that imposes a rigid, stagnant aesthetic for more idealistic purposes

After listening to Kid A, I thought Radiohead were the most self-indulgent band to listen to. Well, what ya know... the critics hailed it as very good so I gave "In Rainbows" a listen. It was user friendly as they said it was.... and yes, I like it...like it....not Love it...

Another over-rated Radiohead album. The much anticipated In Rainbows changes pace with other Radiohead albums in the first few songs, then returns in pretentious fashion. A few good songs, but others like '15 step', 'Nude' and 'Jigsaw' that get old very quickly. The sound is a little dull.

I didn't like the album at first, because to me, it sounded the same as Kid A, which I consider Radiohead's worst album. Over time it has grown on me, and Disc 2 has some gems on it. Still not as good as Hail To The Thief though.

Once I gave up all hope that Radiohead would ever reach the heights of OK Computer or even The Bends, I started enjoying them more. I like this album better than any since Kid A, but still the songs tend to blend into each other. The album is more spaced-out electronically tinged post-modern, post-apocalyptic, post-everything music, from a very reliable group. Is it earth shattering? 3. Happily, In Rainbows is pretty, pretty good.
