Oh Pixies, I wanted to like this so much. As excited as I was that Charles was back to using the Black Francis moniker, it's pretty clear that his present-day songwriting chops are not as sublime and unpredictable as his earlier incarnation. It's VERY rare that re-formed bands can capture the essence and spirit of the early stuff, and Indy Cindy only occasionally flirts with the greatness of the Pixies catalog. As a songwriter, Francis has changed over the years and it may be that if he continues writing songs for this band that we'll hear stronger material and a return to form in the future. This is for die hard fans only, BUT it does fortunately return the band to "active" status, meaning the Pixies won't devolve into an "oldies" act. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. compared to the rest of Pixies' discography, its not that good at all. Judged however as just a singular rock album among many coming out at he minute, it is, like many, half decent and not greatly satisfactory. So summed up, its obviously not a great album.
If you want a great rock album, I recommend the Pixies' Doolittle and Bossanova, Surfer Rosa etc amongst a couple of others as well, they show you good times!

This album doesn't really feel like a Pixie's album. It's overproduced for my taste, but it does start out with some catchy songs for the first half of the album. Then it loses steam and turns into a boring endeavor. They should have worked out some of the weaker songs a little more before putting this out.

A worthy addition to one of alt.rock's greatest canons. [Jul 2014, p.92]

At least Pixies didn't try to fake their way into recreating every aspect of their former glory. But the music here is so unfortunately forgettable.

Yes, some of these are very stupid songs.... And like Doolittle, there are great songs here. [No. 110, p.58]
