    There is a slight feel of the difficult 2nd album here. After the gradual but ultimately big success of the bands debut "In Waiting", there is a decent level of expectation weighing on this. The results are good and fans of the debut will definitely enjoy it as it is similar in style and theme. "Leave the Light On" is arguably a better album as a listen from start to finish. TheThere is a slight feel of the difficult 2nd album here. After the gradual but ultimately big success of the bands debut "In Waiting", there is a decent level of expectation weighing on this. The results are good and fans of the debut will definitely enjoy it as it is similar in style and theme. "Leave the Light On" is arguably a better album as a listen from start to finish. The songwriting has definitely progressed forward especially on the lyrical side of things. On the other hand it lacks the same level of real standout tunes that "In Waiting" had. There is no "Holy Show", "How Do I Look?" of "Liffey" but as I have said already, it's probably a more consistent album and has few if any filler tracks.… Expand

    While the songs themselves are more uneven, Pillow Queens' sound is fully formed, with tracks including opener "Be by Your Side" hitting on all cylinders.

    Leave the Light On often considers the toll of living up to expectations, in romantic, platonic, and societal terms. Unfortunately, you also sometimes get the sense of it with regards to following up a beloved album, with the band revealing a new inclination toward gravitas that smothers some of their fire.
