When he’s crooning swoon-heavy gut-punches, he’s unstoppable. When he guns for swaggering electro-pop or soul-infused dance bangers, there’s almost nothing than can get in the way--this is the best pop music in the U.K. right now.

Aside from a few boyband-like melodic lulls, Love + War is a fine showcase for Kwabs’ breathtaking technical skill and emotive heft.

Deeply personal yet accessible slice of soul music.

Kwabs' effortless ability to glide through genres and attract ungrudging royal endorsements will, one suspects, give his moving debut serious legs. [Oct 2015, p.96]

Love + War is a flawed yet no less exciting debut from a talent who deserves every success in the world.

Love + War is solid rather than spectacular, but contains enough promising signs to suggest his next album could be something special.

The more complex likes of Look Over Your Shoulder’s thrillerish build-and-hush tension, My Own’s dark and shifty Timbalandish textures and the moody, dubstep blues ballad of Forgiven, with its sunburst of a chorus, keep this lusciously atmospheric album well on the right side of smooth.

The album’s title suggests fight and energy but much of this album feels too polite and too pedestrian.
