"Take me down to the river take me to where all the poisons go/ And we’ll ride that **** home" is the line that defines this album. Metropole is all about feeling old and lonely, ironically, TLA riffs and lyrics have their old sound but are anything but old. TLA is one of the few "old-school" punk bands that is yet to lay an egg. The overall structure of the album as a sound bouncing through the city is excellent, though song-to-song, the album can feel uniform in a more expected way. But that said, this is still a tight 35 minutes of pure punk rock from a band making a welcome return and refusing to go back to where they were.

The end result is excellent in places, but easier to admire than endure. [21 Dec 2013, p.69]

Songwriters Brendan Kelly and Chris McCaughan are in peak form and are far too self-aware to fall into that old trap; they know better than to chase capricious youth.
