It’s an album of the year material. Lyrics are so mature yet wise & the production is superb . Taylor proved once again her ability to explore genres.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. We already know how great Taylor's lyrical work is so I'm gonna focus on my criticisms more than my praises.

The bridges are average, some of the melodies go nowhere, the flow of some of the lyrics is off. The 3AM edition has some great additions but some of the songs feel like filler. Love the choice of Karma being a gel pen pop song and Taylor going all in on the reputation vibes with Vigilante Sh*t. Some of the songs feel too similar to others and I'm not referring to references and interpolations but the sings within the album compared to each other. The production also feels wonky and a bit uninspired. However I do acknowledge that some of the songs didn't please me as much as they should've (especially the 3am songs) because of my particular music taste but when I try to think of the melody for The Great War for example, i often get it confused with the music in Paris or High Infidelity.

Taylor never fails to make a statement when it comes to what’s on her mind and in her heart. Midnights is the deepest look we’ve ever seen into Swift’s dark evening thoughts, the tempos and harmonies that fill empty spaces.

There is literary nothing new on the album. It sounds like discarded songs on her last albums. Lyrically it's not able to do a good job of painting the Midnights the way she promoted it. It was very hard to listen to a complete song without skipping it except maybe Vigilante **** and Great War. But even those were like demo versions of reputation songs.

Someone mentioned there’s sapphic undertones and, quite honestly, it would make a lot more sense and make this album more interesting than Taylor still writing songs reminiscing and pining over the same 4-5 white dudes she dated a decade ago while happily in a long term relationship with another similar white dude. It doesn’t make any sense. What makes even less sense is how this album received 100/90 ratings from the “critics” when it’s so disjointed and ideas are all over the place. Midnights is, contrary to the New York Times’ review, a new side of Taylor we’ve never heard before. This is a totally new sound and engineering and writing from Swift and her colleagues. I wouldn’t be surprised if this record brings new people into the Swiftie mix.

Sounds like all her other stuff. Pretty much pop fusion, which is ok but getting old. Didn’t break any new ground here

A true masterpiece from a musical mastermind. Truly no skips, only hits! It’s impossible to imagine how she can top this, but knowing Taylor, she always will!

One of her best albuns, she ways can do something good without doing diferent or keeping the same style of her other albuns. It's impressive how she can do a music with an beautiful word, or a sad one, with a fun and animated rhythm.

She is good, finding the balance between her folklore/evermore albums and lover/reputation synth pop. She's not everyone's cup of tea, but for her fans, the album is great.

Anti-Hero was one of those for me, but after listening to it multiple times and seeing the music video I’ma big fan. Even though Midnights is a departure from folklore and evermore it is reminiscent of the 1989 and Reputation era as many reviewers have pointed out. Lover was an album that really took time for me to enjoy, but in the end I really did enjoy it and it may be one of my favorites. No doubt this one will be a favorite. Taylor truly if a remarkable songwriter and entertainer that knows her fans well. Expand

Picks of the bunch are Karma, Maroon, Anti-Hero, Snow On the Beach, Sweet Nothing, and You're On Your Own, Kid. The rest is fairly boilerplate and forgettable, but the production is crisp and potent throughout. Huge influence of Jack Antonoff on this album helps cultivate its nocturnal motifs. The 3am edition is brilliant. Not a fan of the censored version. 8.6/10

It allows Swift to do what she has always wanted: make an album for its own sake that is received primarily as a work of art instead of a commercial entity or tabloid fodder.

It is very good. ... There are no major missteps within the album, although not everything works as well as the album’s brightest spots.

While her 10th album doesn’t make instant classic status like 1989, and Evermore and Folklore remain her masterpieces, it is still an understated, beguiling look into the mind of one of the biggest pop stars of our age.
