Never quite forsaking what brought them, they’ve created a new world for post-country country--as musically satisfying as it is hormone-peaking.

His songs are lyrically simple yet emotionally and sonically resonant enough to envision listeners being drawn in even if they don't know the language.

Mono is the work of a band just smart enough that sometimes the body is just as important as the frontal lobes. The Mavericks understand how to satisfy both, and Mono is an album that will keep you dancing to its beats and smiling to its wit and romance 'til the break of dawn.

There is a vibrant exuberance to these performances that, like its old-school audio, feels alive and fresh making the Mavericks one of the few bands better in their second act than in their first.

It's big, bold and still stands out next to anything coming from Nashville.

Together, with the rest of the band’s energetic, spot-on virtuosity, his songs wrap around the listener and weave romantic, sensual, timeless tales. No one will ask, “Where is the melody?" or, “Where is the emotion?” The Mavericks supply both. In addition to pure romance, Mono provides humor, insight and an undeniable “you gotta dance” vibe. Stereo? I did not miss it. With “Mono” this good, there was nothing lacking as far as I’m concerned. Full Review »

Mono displays the full range of their incredible talent. Each song continues to play in your head long after the CD ends. Tap your feet, sway your hips and dance to the haunting rhythms, or be seduced by beautiful ballads. Raul Malo's resonant voice has a palpable, seductive effect. Whatever your mood, The Mavericks leave your breathless with their demanding beat and boundless energy, then let you catch your breath with moving ballads. Enjoy the emotional roller coaster. The brilliance of Mono is that each cut feels like an old, familiar friend and yet remains fresh and exciting. Each and every song stands alone...there are no weak cuts. Blues, jazz, Latin, country, pop...the band cannot and should not be labeled anything other than brilliant. For the love of music--The Mavericks. Full Review »

They doMono is everything and more you would expect from The Mavericks. The Mavericks are true to their name. You can't pigeon hold them. They do their own thing and they do it well very well as only The Mavericks can. Raul Malo's Voice of Velvet, Master Guitarist Eddie Perez, Magnificent Paul Deakin on Drums and Jerry Dale on Organ is the best around. When JD start dancing the Party is ON! You have the full instrumentals of Max Abrams on Sax who has a breath taking sound, as well as Paul Armstrong on Trumpet, the Fabulous Michael Guerra on Accordion, and the Talented James Intveld on upright Bass. I hear a lot of Jazz sounds in Mono the album is refreshing and mind blowing. Dancing at one point and swaying at another. Every song on Mono is a hit. There is something for everyone. I have been waking up and going to sleep listening to Mono. Just saw The Mavericks 2/19 the opening show of their world Mono Mundo Tour. It was the Best and Most Amazing show ok my entire life. Just attend one Mavericks show and you too will have The Mavericks Fever. Now waiting until my next Mavericks Fix 6/20 @ Indian Ranch MA until then..... their CD's The Mavericks Rule! You need to know The Mavericks are what you call a TRUE Band. They all play their own instruments. Every member brings something special to the table. Raul Malo sing, produces and writes many of The Mavericks songs he also writes with one of my favorite songwriters Alan Miller of Millers Tale Music, who has co- written 3 of the songs on Mono. Raul Malo is a man of many talents. When he smiles we all smile. All The Mavericks are so Talented as well as down to earth and kind. Also all are very easy on the eyes. I love watching them perform. Because they truly love and enjoy playing their music and they love their fans. The Mavericks are going on 25 years they have Earn the right to be called THE MOST INTERESTED BAND IN THE WORLD and if that's not enough they back it up at every show on every record. Full Review »
