  1. Coy, genail and funny... a potent antidote to the usual chill-out porridge. [#184, p.140]
  2. Those of you who choose to get in on the ground floor of this superlative venture they call Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By will not be disappointed.
  3. Terrific baby-making music for the irony-inclined.
  4. Superficially, Lovage is a continuation of the Handsome Boy Modeling School aesthetic that collides HipHop, rock and electronica into an ironic hipster epic. [#213, p. 59]
  5. 70
Only time will tell whether it's a cheeky classic or a momentary novelty.
  6. 70
Lovage's schtick wears pretty thin by album's end--but if it works like it's supposed to, you won't need to play it that long. [Feb 2002, p.108]
  7. As an EP, the premise of Lovage would flourish.
  8. 60
Works both as satire and actual make-out fare. [Feb/Mar 2002, p.113]
  9. While Nakamura is quite possibly one of the most accomplished beat processors in the realm of art hip-hop/electronica, his strict-composer approach on this project is occasionally inaccessible and at times unlistenable.
  10. 50
Lovage only works some of the time--the record's sense of humor often trumps its music. [Feb 2002, p.123]
  11. My biggest gripe about Lovage is that it finds a number of clearly talented artists constructing the same song continually without variation.
  12. Not even the added muscle of playaz like Kid Koala, Afrika Bambaataa, Plug 3, Prince Paul and Mike Patton manage to lift this album above the low level pastiche it seems happy to be.

A lot of cool smooth sampling from the 60's 70's that transform good songs into a great classic album. I give 10 for less than 1 out of 100 records that I own. Nothing else from Nakamura or Patton come close to this IMO.

The only other "sampling" album that I give at 10 is The Avalanches "Since I left You"

The only down side to the album are the three skit like tracks. The instrumentation is excellent and the vocals are suppurb.
