The young Finn Andrew sings like his been around as long as Nick Cave. A very raw and dark album. I love it.

Quite similar to the arcade fire, but not as good(impossible). Still, unique sounding (a mix of indie, metal, pop) and with a charismatic lead singer, these Kiwis will be big. A wierd, beautiful, emotional, anthemic experience. Great album!

If you're going to start with The Veils, this is where you do it. "Jesus For The Jugular" is one of the greatest modern rock 'n' roll songs of our era, and there's a lot more to like here for fans of Nick Cave, The Smiths, and Tom Waits. Nux Vomica shirks the Suede-lite motif of The Runaway Found for a more distinctive, visionary songwriter voice and is unexpectedly all the better for it.

  1. An unruly beast filled with vim and vigor, unrestrained in fits of rage, questioning, and discontent. [#17, p.87]
  2. The album's a wonderful step forward from an already strong foothold, theatrical without being overdone, introspective without being saccharine, and makes for an excellent piece of work.
  3. Knowing that music of this stripe is only pretentious if it doesn’t work, it’s a near miracle that the entire album holds up, front to back, even those ballads in the second half that might have ruined lesser works.
