Good album overall. Contains two big hits "I Kissed A Girl" & "Hot N Cold". "If You Can Afford me" should've been 5th single. It was a good album to start a career with.

Her best album. My faves are One of the Boys, Lost, Waking up in Vegas and Fingerprints but all the songs are good anyway.............................

One of the boys has too many contractions, first it has a somewhat homophobic song and then a song where it shows to be bisexual, something that is not. But in general, it has a good debut, it is not my total pleasure, I have some doubts, but everything seems very well organized and quality for the time

After listening to Katy Perry’s debut, One Of The Boys, I kept on asking myself why I had not listened to any of her releases before. Apart from a few stinkers, this album merges aspects of rock and pop in a wonderful way that is very enjoyable. I thought it was pretty fun how Perry tended to use e-guitars as background instruments instead of synths; makes it more enjoyable in my opinion. Perry’s voice is great to listen to, sounding very good even in the louder songs, where it has the greatest chance of being buried. The lyrics to a good number of the songs in this release are also pretty well thought out or catchy. Everything also fits together fairly well, which makes the piece flow in an enjoyable way. One Of The Boys starts off with the namesake song, which completely changed my expectations for the album. I really liked the way it sounded, merging rock and pop, and the lyrics were wonderful. The drumbeat in I Kissed A Girl was pretty nice, though the chorus lyrics were pretty strange. The music was decent though, and the background vocals during the chorus were highlights. I felt fairly conflicted about this song, though the “rock remix” pushes things to 11. In this version the lyrics were still a bit annoying but were definitely more palatable with epic music. The “money jingling” start to Waking Up In Vegas was brilliant, and I loved the explosive chorus (and the music in general). Everything just felt so well composed, and the pop-rock feel of the album was very enjoyable so far. Thinking Of You’s acoustic guitar was very nice, shaking things up, and the lyrics were so powerful and sung with so much emotion. The strings made the chorus; it was a good choice to add them in. Mannequin’s beat was pretty good and I liked how “burny” the lyrics were. Some of the synths were cool if a little overpowering, but this song was good overall tho. I liked how Ur So Gay started off with some piano and the fun chord was great. I thought the chorus lyrics were a little lazy, though the verse lyrics were great (pretty spicy). The bridge was fun with the different instruments playing the same riff, though I found it went on for a bit too long. The “shut-off” ending was awesome until Perry ended it with a word I felt didn’t fit (I took off another point for that). Hot N Cold’s drums with synth sixteenths sounded awesome and I loved the chorus. The simple drum beat worked really well and the lyrics were outstanding. The synth solo was awesome with the overdriven octaving guitar and I love the stripped down part. If You Can Afford Me’s music was amazing (wonderful loud bass, awesome faraway drums in the prechorus, acoustic guitar in the quiet chorus) and the lyrics were great; another winner. I love how Lost bled in from the last song and the acoustic with the “chimey” instrument was great. I want to know more about the inspiration behind the lyrics. Perry’s voice sounded great, and the “chorus of Katys” was epic. Self Inflicted flowed well too, and this song rocked. Needless to say, the music was great, and the lyrics were pretty good too. The bright bass was very fun and I loved the fade out. Another vibey drum beat opened I’m Still Breathing and I enjoyed how the piano acted as the base instrument with the helper guitars. There was power in lyrics and a fun chord right before verse 2. The harmonies were very nice and I loved how the guitar was added onto the last chorus. The music was wonderful in Fingerprints and I enjoyed the lyrics as well (if a little repetitive). The piano was fun, as were the chimes that were reminiscent of Lost. The sudden ending was also nice. In general, I greatly enjoyed Katy Perry’s debut. It is a wonderful combination of wonderful aspects of pop and rock and the lyrics were delightfully catchy (and sometimes spicy!). I absolutely look forward to listening to more releases from Katy Perry, and though I am a little late to the game with her music, I can already say that I will enjoy a lot of her music. I would recommend One Of The Boys to people who love a good pop album, and fans of rock may enjoy this too. Highlights: One Of The Boys, I Kissed A Girl (Rock), Waking Up In Vegas, Thinking Of You, Hot N Cold, If You Can Afford Me, Self Inflicted, I’m Still Breathing, and Fingerprints.

The critique has a strong massacre in question of this album, however it is the most itimo album of Katy Perry. The compositions are completely 100% incredible, but the instrumental and production are not there at the peak, however for your first album this is good. I felt an incredible connection. I foresee an incredible evolution in POP.

Perry becomes a liberating girl. Madonna in her time criticized different problems in the world, now a new woman does it, regardless of adapting in a certain time.

I was genuinely impressed by listening to this album in full for the first time! it’s a very solid debut and has so many bangers that i don’t know the reason why critics got so hard on Katy. Some songs did age bad, like “Ur So Gay”, but others aged like fine wine and still sounds fresh to this date. It deserves way more than 47.

Katy Perry makes her debut to pop music with her debut album. While the album isn't very cohesive and is fairly generic. A lot of the songs are catchy and fun with great vocals from Perry. The album attempts to go somewhere with female empowerment, but it instead dips its toe in the idea of possibly doing so. Katy saved herself on the album with her production and unique vocals. Katy Perry's first album brings her better side, and totally pure and vocal just from her. Its covers, compositions and sound comes from a root that pop needed to become what it is today. She's a great artist, I get emotional in days like years after launching into seeing the pure material she came into her debut.

Um dos álbuns pop mais bem trabalhados da década 00's. Nostálgico, envolvente, com uma pegada rock alternativo que mais acrescenta, do que atrapalha. One Of The Boys é a cara do pop nos anos 2000.

  1. The problem is not with Katy's gender-bending, it's that her heart isn't in it; she's just using it to get her places, so she sinks to crass, craven depths that turn One of the Boys into a grotesque emblem of all the wretched excesses of this decade.
  2. Yes, Perry has a heart, but it sounds like her bustier's too tight for her to use it.
  3. 'Mannequin' features some cleverly written lyrics, but Perry doesn't possess the grit or vocal prowess to follow through, and the title track is like No Doubt's 'Just a Girl' sans personality and conviction.
