Because they're good musicians, they are able to perform this sub-par material well enough to fool the average listener into thinking they're on to something decent. And by that, I mean it had me fooled. But after enough spins I caught on; the songwriting is bland and uninspired. With all the good music out there, I can't find a good enough reason to ever play this album again.

What a disappointment. The first audioslave album was just an amazing rock album, with the zeppelin and sabbath influences clearly visible. In this album...not so much. The album starts off fair enough, with a decent opening track called your time has come. then it goes to an even better title track, both keep to the bands hard rock roots. But after that, the album just went downhill. BeWhat a disappointment. The first audioslave album was just an amazing rock album, with the zeppelin and sabbath influences clearly visible. Doesnt remind me might have been a nice slow rock song, something which i can respect, but the rest of the album just isnt worth listening to. Expand

this album just fail to bring some personality to audioslave sound. it feels like a bad 70's hard rock with the most terrible solos from tom morello to date.

I'm a HUGE Chris Cornell fan, and I own every Soundgarden, Audioslave and Rage Against the Machine album. This is the most disappointing album I've heard from any of the above-mentioned groups (except maybe 1980's Soundgarden, but they were just developing their sound at the time, so they have an excuse). Although I haven't listened to Out Of Exile multiple times, I I'm a HUGE Chris Cornell fan, and I own every Soundgarden, Audioslave and Rage Against the Machine album. Although I haven't listened to Out Of Exile multiple times, I know it probably won't make much of difference if I do because of how well I know these guys. However, I wasn't thrilled with "Be Yourself"at first, and I still think it has a weak chorus but it has grown on me and I like it a lot now. I can only hope that the rest of the album will have that same effect if I give it another chance, but I doubt it will. The songs are just bland and uninspiring. Their first album blew me away; Out of Exile is dull and very disappointing in comparison. Chris Cornell is the greatest singer alive; he needs to team with better songwriters so he can fulfill what should be his legacy as the greatest singer ever before he gets much older or it'll be too late. "Be yourself is all that you can do" reminds me of the US military recruitment song "Be all that you can be." C'mon guys what happened to creativity and avoiding cliches. The only thing this song has going for it is Morello. I have never been a fan of Cornell's half -baked singing. Not a fan and unless they change singers I probably won't be.

This album has no weight or rock hook to it. Yes im a huge Morrello fan but he has soft unflattering riffs.Soft and dissapointing from audioslave. I hope this is a one off poor, weak and plain unexciting album. Everything on this album is facing the emo wall and bowing its head. Stop whinning savage garden man and get back to what u can do.. dissapointed!

Mr. Chris Cornell, you are the messiah to all those who appreciate true music and art. You really know how to capture the emotions of a human being and deliver it in the most realistic of ways. You truly reach out towards all the people who share the same pains of desperation, angst, hatred and depression. Your 'always against the system' songs really nurtured the weakened souls Mr. Chris Cornell, you are the messiah to all those who appreciate true music and art. You really know how to capture the emotions of a human being and deliver it in the most realistic of ways. You truly reach out towards all the people who share the same pains of desperation, angst, hatred and depression. Your 'always against the system' songs really nurtured the weakened souls of people, telling them to rise up against tough situations and parts of their life that were downright miserable. After you closed the doors to the 'Garden of Sounds' the wiils of those souls were crushed and the pieces scattered. Those souls adapted to your lone voice some time later and felt right at home, but then your voice was lost and the same fate befell those souls again. Times have changed and so have you. Mr. Cornell, you have become the one thing that we the souls have always feared you would one day turn into; a-mindless-corporate-radio-musician who is forced to make music from the outside rather than letting it emote from within. Shame on you. Here is my little thought on (the NEW) you; "I wish I could blow up the outside world As I fell on black days The times were gone for honest men The day I tried to live But one more time around I burrowed down And blew up the outside world." Chris Cornell attempts to bore us to sleep by singing trite cliches as Tom Morello does his best to destroy his legacy as a guitarist by throwing off some of the worst solos ever laid to tape (Yes, I am especially speaking of 'Be Yourself'). Next, please.

Weak. Derivitive. Cheesy. Not nearly as solid or heavy as their first release. Formulaic even with Tom Morello's guitar innovation. No sign of what we loved about Rage or Soundgarden on this record. The guys are clearly getting soft in their old age.

The album ends up in the same spinning-wheels muck that often bogged down Soundgarden. [27 May 2005, p.136]
  2. The foursome has still not found a common sound to call its own.
  3. Lean, hard, strong, and memorable, a record that finds Audioslave coming into its own as a real rock band.
