Pilot Talk II is brilliant because it builds on its excellent predecessor, but finds just a touch more focus.

The rare misstep "Silence," full of murky warbling, highlights the delicate balance between chill and boring. Still, when it works, it works.

On the sequel, Curren$y and Ski go even further with that central idea, pushing into sleepy, smooth funk territory that fits Curren$y's rap style perfectly.

Sometimes a sequel can out do the original. That's the case with Curren$y's follow-up to Pilot Talk, thanks largely to stepped-up production by Ski Beatz, whose beats sound like a minute hasn't passed since he worked on Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt.

Highly desirable for Currensy fans who like his material at its most loose and free, just don't start here.

There's immense lyrical potential, manifesting itself in lines like "Emotional luggage, nothin' of it, I don't check bags / I just carry on, leave that bullshit in the past," or "Master the flow, Alaska-cold / silent foot, assassin approach / high when I stroll / not even leavin' footprints in the snow," but it never quite carries over to the entire song. From that point of view this sequel is more of an afterthought to "Pilot Talk" than an afterburner.

It lacks the consistency and unique feel that the original had in abundance, and lacks the quality hooks that defined his debut.

Right off the bat Airborne Aquarium sets a bouncy smoke filled mood, and Curren$y brings the lyrics hard as usual. Famous and A Gee are two of Spitta's chillest songs on the album, and even though it is questionable whether or not this surpasses the greatness set with the first Pilot Talk, Pilot Talk II is definitely worth a couple playthroughs and will be enjoyed by fans of Da Hot Spitta Expand

It carries on right from where the original left off. The guest spots are for me the only area in which this LP's quality dipps from PT1. However the more focused, cold production is most certainly an improvement and Curren$y's lyrics continue to grow. If PT1 was your soundtrack for the summer then this will be your soundtrack to the winter. I can't imagine many artists could drop 2 LP's within 6 months and never make the listener lose interest. Very much looking forward to the next installment which will be released through Warner, hopefully that will mean a bigger budget and more promotion. Expand
