Power is a rampaging success at being theatrical, dramatic, grandiose and, simultaneously, tasteful.

Power is richly produced, up-beat in the pop mould at times, and tugging away at something deeper at others.

Some might feel the arched eyebrows undermine the sincerity, but either way, this is a recording with its fair share of memorable music.

Fryars has made an album that is cinematic, endlessly listenable and out of this world good.

Some of these songs could have been picked out from different eras altogether, they’re from such distant worlds. But once this record finds its structure, its own voice beyond the ugly context, it’s hard to imagining it arriving in any other form.
  6. Power's handful of great tunes make it worth the wait, but its more affected moments make it difficult to love.

It’s fair to say that sometimes, Power’s laudable ambition means that the album trips over itself. However, despite some flaws, it does make for a great showcase to remind everyone just what a brilliant songwriter Ben Garrett can be.

Power has a surprisingly cohesive feel, even as it shifts from the Beach Boys-infused harmonies of On Your Own to Prettiest Ones Fly Highest's hazy, Frank Ocean-like R&B, with only the slinky house beats of Cool Like Me sounding a false note. [Jan 2015, p.125]
