She said that Queen would be a classic album and she's right. Eminem and Foxy Brown is a good example of classics. The flows, the beats, all on fleek. After 10 years she shows that she's still the Queen of Rap. And always will be.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Nicki Minaj has improved greatly in terms of flow and lyrical quality. She is a great rapper. The album Queen also has great individual songs such as Ganja Burns, Majesty, Barbie Dreams, Chun Li. But the album as a whole is forgettable. There are so many passable songs that are just boring, yet still have quality lyrics.
So many songs try differing styles and yet don't capture who Nicki is. Nicki Minaj is best when she is doing music that is different than the norm (Truffle Butter, Anaconda, Superbass). So this album just has a series of songs that sound just like everything else in 2018. Even though it may lyrically be of higher quality the music ends up seeming mostly bland. I never got a great feeling of who Nicki is from this album instead it could be any pop star with this music. Compare it to albums like Lemonade and Dirty Computer where at the end you feel like you got to know the artist better and have a strong feeling of who they are.

'Queen' is the proof that Nicki is one of the most versatile artists of all time. Every time an album of her is released we can appreciate a new flavor. 'Queen' is rich in intelligent rhymes and atmospheric beats. The album was built amid the turbulence of recent years, but she shows us, once again, that she is a strong woman. A survivor.

The album Queen of Onika proves that a woman can speak what she wants without being seen as a woman Bitc not feeling pejorative to curse because in Brazil women can not approach sexual context because they are seen as women who do not pay, who are not worth anything Nicki shows that yes the Woman can and Must expose what she wants to speak in the rhymes, the melodies and the iconic participations of the album. On the other hand, however, the album turns out to be torturous, with a handful of disposable and immemorial songs among the 19 tracks. 'Queen' also misses the approach, with Nicki singing about her feats and ownerships on almost every track, with only a few exceptions, as in the emotional "Come See About Me." For the album to really be worthy of a queen, Nicki would have to show all her sides, facets and demons, so we could realize that even out of the spotlight and megalomania, she's still royal. Nicki does the exact opposite, flipping open that she's a queen because she thinks she's awesome in 'Chun Swae'. The album is a success to consider, though. Despite its few defects, Nicki is not shaken in front of the competition of Cardi B, Azealia Banks and Iggy Azalea, with a release as good as the most recent ones from the girls above. Expand

She showed how to be a versatile rapper, from the New York vibes, Island vibes, hard rap songs to chill and emotional songs. In a time like now where rap has changed a lot it's fresh to see a female rapper bring something more to the table than what's just popular now. She took a different approach and made sure that this record would sound and be different to what is out right now ( I take my hat off for that). Nicki showed with this album once again why she the queen. I feel like that I could come back 10 years later and listen to this album and it would still feel like a whole new album to me, that's how classic this album is. Expand

Even though it is a rollercoaster, seeing that it absolutely thrives at some points, but nearly falters at others, there is no denying that "Queen" is one of the best records the well-deservedly-earned-title Queen of Rap Nicki Minaj has ever created. Even though it is a rollercoaster, seeing that it absolutely thrives at some points, but nearly falters at others, there is no denying that "Queen" is one of the best records the well-deservedly-earned-title Queen of Rap Nicki Minaj has ever created. The production is just incredible: it's so diverse from tropical beats to gangster sounds to a lot of basses that'll drop you to your knees (I guess that's why it's called "Queen"?), and Minaj is at the top of her game with her lyricism and her bar spitting. The album opens pefectly with 'Ganja Burns' on which Nicki confidently asserts: "You can't wear a Nicki wig and then be Nicki", among other preaches she throws, and then moves to 'Majesty' which definitely feels like it's so in-cohesive that it feels like it was on purpose, but could've used much less Eminem material and a much reduced running time nevertheless. The album keeps leveling things up, with songs like the hard-hitting 'Barbie Dreams', instant-banger 'Hard White' and the Lil Wayne-assisted 'Rich Sex', and then things start to falter a little after that: 'Thought I Knew You', even though well-produced and enjoyable, feels like a filler track, and the Weeknd is utterly useless on the song, and 'Chun Swae', which is also very-well produced and performed, could totally use a much lesser duration than its 6 minutes run. Then the album takes off again with bangers such as 'Chun-Li', absolute highlight 'LLC', and even we get to see soft vulnerable singing Nicki on other highlight 'Come See About Me', which is an instant earworm. The only misstep that remains is a weak song towards the end of the album: the Future-collab 'Sir' is somewhat boring, and feels like it was solely made for the two artists to have more songs to sing together at their joint-tour starting next month.
That being said, the whole 19-songs pack is very cohesive, and very well put together, and Minaj's rapping and delivery are enough to keep her on her throne where she belongs.

Overall, the album reinforces what we already know... Nicki Minaj is the greatest female rapper of our time. In a world were the only other female rapper that is flourishing doesn't write her own music, Nicki reminds us that you can be a talented female artist in hip hop, go toe-to-toe with all the male rappers and be respected as a RAPPER. We started with loving the music you can like the music and still hate the artist if you deem it necessary. Anyway, with that being said I feel like this is Nicki’s most diversified piece of work. You can tell that she looked back at her past discography and picked pieces that worked the best, and worked to improve parts that didn’t work as well in the past. Some songs like run & hide could have probably been left off the album but she more than makes up for it with songs where she’s rapping over a roaring beat, jumping intricately over note or laid back on a more slow track. Enjoyable from beginning to end. You may dislike her but this is the work of an artsit who utilized her talent. Ten years in and she’s still improving with every drop. Expand

Track “ Come see about me “ what is quite surprising she sounds amazing. Like no other album, slight autotune tune but it’s nothing like a T-pain. The tracks are fun, there some gems that are just straight spitting genius, like #Minajesty ft Emenim, HARD WHITE where she declares her Crown back and makes it clear that if and anyone ever puts it on again it WILL be Knocked off. A track called #LLC takes the cake when it comes to rap Battle. Nicki came and she Did what she had to do! TRACK 17: #MIAMI Ever wanted to know to what’s it like being one of the biggest Drugs lords in a city that demands /.. well sit down sm*ke a bl**t and think Grand theft Auto MIAMI because Nicki Minaj executes this with slick Lyrics, sexy , Cocky Flow very catchy , Never to fall short of her witty and catchy Barz “ just the other day I was in MIAMI/ got the low low on perks /low low on them zannies / **** know my **** petty I ain’t talking Manis / pull up with a lot of boddies don’t forget the addy/ when i run up in the town I ain’t chitty Chatty/ got some real pretty **** that’s come w a fatty /too much money I ain’t never need a sugardaddy / I’m the bell of the ball you can call me pattie “ then an Iconic Dance Hall Sample ft FOXY Brown to close the show.. but let’s talk about when beat drops Nicki’s bars are clear , boisterous and in your face! Oh and don’t for get the Dance..
Great body of work. Some may say it isn’t coheisive but I have to disagree nothing on this album is same. Each track stands out in ways that one may say it’s not in order but how can it be order on creativity and #BOLDNESS each track is so unique. It’s sticks out. It’s a rap art Masterpiece. Easily #Grammy worthy !

Queen is really amazing. I admit I was a little nervous as she hasn't released an album for 4 years and many things came up to her, but now, I must say Nicki is back with more amazing songs and hits. It's worth waiting for it.

As being part of the barbs myself I would I like to start by saying no this is not nickis best album. But the hate that it is receiving is also not what it deserves. Personally my favorites are Barbie Dreams , She really lets all her feelings out and rides the beat so heavy and the little surprise at the end OOOF WIGGGG ! Chun Swae this song I already felt it since I heard it first on QUEENRADIO the wat was so smooth her verse was amazing ! Majesty I can’t even , I think very one that listens to it already knows it’s one of the best! And the rest of the album but I look at each song from various perspectives each time. So please before any of lil Kim’s , cardis or anyone else’s fans attack nicki. Sincerely listen to the album look at the lyrics and if you feel offended about your stan being noticed or called out then sis this is the rap game, get use to it or beat it. Expand

I was a Barb in the 2009-2012 era and then I just gave up on her because she would not release an album. I thought she was washed out and could no longer rap like she used to so I joined the Bardi Gang. Then Queen dropped and I realized that she stills has it. She proved to me that she was the Queen of Rap.Her best album yet. I am so sorry for doubting you, Nicki. On Queen, Nicki spends a lot of time ordering beheadings--which are fun, but get old quick--rather than showing us why she is and should be queen. Here's to hoping the next album gives us a more earnest, more raw glimpse of the head that wears the crown.

When Minaj leans into her untouchable strengths as a rapper, things get really exciting and an album of tracks as strong as "LLC" or "Barbie Dreams" would be one for the books. As it stands, however, Queen is another chapter of Minaj's good but largely meandering and inconsistent full-length album output.

Queen's title implies it's meant to function as a coronation for one of the biggest rappers ever, but it's more the sound of Minaj fighting to keep that crown on her head.
