Summary:Named after the R&B artist's daughter, the seventh full-length studio release feature guest appearances from Future (on the deluxe edition), Tayla Parx, and Solo Lucci.
I thought we were great
You took your love back and ran us off track
I counted all the days
'Til you would come back, how stupid was that
Now you're...
The music carries a convincing bad-guy energy that’s all the more potent for its sweet, often luscious textures. Its recklessness travels in a clear direction.
Where “Sleep” excels as a quality addition to his catalog’s stellar collection of panty-dropping and baby-making songs (see: “Take You Down,” “No BS”), others fall and lean towards prosaic.
While showing progression here, Chris Brown still is quite far from being the best man and artist that he can be. On Royalty, Chris Brown shows what happens when Peter Pan tries to grow up, but loves turning up in the club even more.

This album to me marked the moment when Breezy decided to stick to his street sound. He wasn't afraid of showcasing his gifts or pour his soulThis album to me marked the moment when Breezy decided to stick to his street sound. He wasn't afraid of showcasing his gifts or pour his soul out on this record. It tells a story where he's lost between a failing relationship and debauchery, finding his unapologetic mindset his only assurance. Its last track dedicated to his daughter, being a severe U turn, gives an unexpected ending, with him finding the right way outside his troubled feelings and bad boy mindset, thanks to his newborn daughter.
The absence of a sonic script differentiates this outing from his other albums, but, while offering hits of various genres, make this album flow a little bit worse than it could. Besides the horribly produced "Anyway", and a couple of fillers, Royalty has some huge gems to offer. "Discover", with his dreamy-druggy production, and Brown's incredible vocal performance, really brings out lovesickness in a charming, sorrowful, way. "Zero" is the quintessential disco/funk record, offering an engaging bad-boy look. "Picture me rollin'" travels from g-funk, R&B and trap, blending them on a hood-anthem that showcases Brown's talent, and musical brilliance. "Back 2 Sleep" might just be one of thhe best R&B songs ever. This album has its ups and downs, but the ups are too up to be overlooked and not considered for their greatness.
The cover art portraying him with his eyes closed, shirtless, covered in tattoos, wearing a luxurious ring and an iced out gold watch, holding his daughter while sleeping, surely gives a tender feel, when you take a first look. But after listening to the album, it looks gangsta as hell.…Expand
