Royalty is like the B side to X, which wasn't that great in the first place. The majority of songs are extremely lacking lyrically and Breezy's vocals can't make up for it. The title song was a diamond in the rough.

SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE Nothing happens on this album! I nearly fell asleep listening to this! Its not... awful, but it has really down beat and boring production, Chris sounds like he needs sleep, and the lyrics are...bad... "Oh, man, you drugged me? That turns me on, come here!!" 4/10

Royalty is many things all at once though much of it is not particularly good.

The music carries a convincing bad-guy energy that’s all the more potent for its sweet, often luscious textures. Its recklessness travels in a clear direction.

The majority of what follows is a qualitative step back from previous solo album X.
