Sees the Light manages to squeeze a boatload of emotions out of simple verse-chorus-verse pop.

While her debut featured plenty of catchy tunes, Sees the Light captures Goodman in a far more confident mode, showcasing her wit and personality.

In almost every way, Sees the Light is an impressive leap forward for Goodman that shows she's more than ready to make La Sera her full-time musical outlet.

The change-ups between choruses and verses are less rote, and along with Goodman's ability to write good hooks, there isn't too much that gets in the way.

Goodman casts a spell on the listener with Sees the Light.

Stripped of her day-to-day outfit Vivian Girls' fence of lo-fi fuzz, Katy Goodman's faultless way with Technicolor pop melodies blazes through La Sera's second album.

It's a record so enjoyable and expertly sequenced that it demands repeat listens before it's even over.

On her second album, Sees the Light, Goodman has tweaked the La Sera formula slightly to create an engaging record that plays to her strengths as a pop craftsman.

Simply a good album that never overstays its welcome and offers a nice reprieve to those in need of something light but still a little memorable.

La Sera tips it bonnet to the long-gone AM-radio sound of the '60's girl groups but with ... guitar noise and snarky attitude. [#86, p.55]

By spending most of its brief running time in an uptempo, breezy mode, Sees the Light more than compensates for its relatively modest arsenal of hooks and similar sounding choruses.

Overall, Sees the Light is as successful an album as La Sera was.

It's lightweight stuff, as easy to wash off as a day of surf and sand. But it's difficult to deny the buzzy delights of her aggressively rough-hewn pop.

Pleasant enough, and skillful, but all too familiar.

The first four or so tracks of Sees the Light hold their own in terms of melody and momentum....Unfortunately, Sees the Light devolves from there into full-on, committed homogeneity, songs blending into each other with little to set them apart

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view.
