There’s a lot to unwrap lyrically and thematically on Show Pony. It offers a layer of depth that simply doesn’t exist in certain pockets of country music, and brings all of this to the table while stretching the genre’s sonic boundaries.

As short a release as it is, the tight six-track EP packs a punch. This is essential material for both country listeners and fans of Orville Peck, who, through his dedication to authenticity in aesthetics, joins the likes of Shania, Reba, Dolly, Johnny, Kenny, Merle, Hank and countless others among the genre's greats.

He is a true, wonderful artist that seems – on this evidence – to be on a one-man mission to take country out farther into the wilderness that its ever been. Make sure you’re along for the ride.

There are many marvellous things about Orville Peck’s new six track EP, ‘Show Pony’, which shimmers as brightly as a cowboy’s pair of freshly polished spurs.

This latest EP indicates that Peck’s brand of country can move past what listeners already heard on Pony. He continues to put a fascinating and subversive take on country music as he moves closer to mainstream stardom.

Show Pony is his declaration that if he's offered the spotlight, he'll claim it as the place he deserves to be, and on the basis of the talent and audacity shown here, only a narrow-minded fool would bet against him.

The original songs on Peck’s latest Show Pony EP are more vague [than Pony}.

This is a fun little album. It kind of serves its purpose. It's an EP bridging the album "Pony" to his next album. I had heard all of the tracks on this album before so there was nothing surprising on this one. Also, I love that Peck is finding his identity but this album emphasizes the country pop style than the gothic outlaw style of his previous album. I just hope he doesn't lose that raw cowboy character and adopt a more radio-friendly identity. However, there's nothing wrong with this album. The tracks on it are great any Orville Peck content makes me happy.
"Summertime" is a hit, but the cover of "Fancy" really takes the cake here. It's raw, emotional, and extremely powerful. He really belts and cries out on this track. I'd like to hear more of this on his next album.

ALBUM ARTWORK: The artwork is alright. It's Orville Peck, but what seems like amateurly painted. I assume it's fan art that he really likes and if that's the case, I respect that a lot to include it as the cover. But, besides it being just good, like the album itself, the color scheme makes it pop a bit more. The purple and texture is very nice.
