Wanderlust has more hits than misses, and clearly places Sophie Ellis-Bextor as a versatile artist that can successfully step outside her musical comfort zone with ease.

Ultimately, Wanderlust is a beautiful thing to behold: a collection of quirky, lovingly crafted songs brought to life by an artist who sounds like she has found herself.

This set of minor-chord melancholia often sounds like the product of another artist entirely.

Wanderlust sees the singer execute an elegant slide into a more stately kind of pop. [Feb 2014, p.88]

It is quirkily appealing without quite being convincing. Lacking an emotional centre, it’s not really deep and dark enough to posit Ellis-Bextor as a sensitive singer-songwriter.

Producer Ed Harcourt has met her mannered delivery and plummy English vowels with string-soaked arrangements but they're more saccharine than stirring.

The whole album is like a kaleidoscope of stories - each is different but all are connected to each other at the same time by this nostalgic retro spirit. You just let your imagination go in any direction accompanied by charming Sophie's voice. She told in some interview that this record is the most personal for her, and I must admit that I was hoping to hear an album like "Wanderlust" from Sophie for a long time. It describes her as an exceptional, interesting and talented person. For me "Wanderlust" is like a breath of fresh air among many other latest releases. Expand

Sophie has a beautiful voice in all songs, with a highlight on the song "Young Blood". Also, I can see a mature woman that have so many stories to tell us... Even with a heart broken and with a fall in love.

    Amazing and graceful. ♥
