Just listen to "Fix You" three or four times before you pass judgment on this album. Listening to "Fix You" is a similar revelatory experience to listening to "The Scientist". This album is by far their best album yet! The music is perfect for emotions. It makes you happy when you want to be happy and sad when you want to be sad. The songs are deep and cause you to think. This band gets better and better as the years progress! I recommend you buy it as soon as you can. It's awsome.

It's perfect. Coldplay is the band for a new generation and yet they reach back to the signs of past epic masterpeices as "Dark Side of the Moon".. Proiduction and engineering on "X&Y" are flawless. This is the first band that I've actually liked in the past 20 years, and will continue to follow them..

After such a long break between AROBTTH and X&Y, I was a bit nervous and axious to hear the new material. I had heard a lot about the guys going in different directions musically, and was worried that Coldplay might change too much from the last record to this. However upon first listen I was reassured, the Coldplay that I have loved for 5 years, is indeed back. And in a BIG way. Obviously X&Y is a major work of growth for the band, with just enough new ideas to excite and intigue us, while maintaining the core sound that is the identity of this band. From heavier tunes like X&Y and Twisted Logic, to Soaring Ballads like Fix You and Swalled in the Sea. From uptempo anthems such as Low and White Shadows to the almost accoustic Til Kingdom come, I would consider X&Y to be as complete as any album could possibly be. I am obviously not technically musical and I could not tell you anything about chords or riffs, but to me only one thing matters when considering a peice of music... Does it move you? X&Y Has moved me like no other album since... well since, A Rush of Blood to the Head. ;) I definitley reccomend it! Expand

X&Y is not the album I hoped to hear from Coldplay. It is a quantum leap better. Just as A Rush of Blood to the Head far exceeded Parachutes, so does X&Y far exceed its Grammy-dominating predecessor. "Sound of Speed," with its immediately familiar feel, led me to expect more of the same (which is what I wanted, actually), but even that song turns out to be more complex than expected. Like X&Y is not the album I hoped to hear from Coldplay. Like the most recent U2 albums, with craftsmanship that only comes with months of work, this album needs to be listened to several times. The songs may not grab you outright, like "Clocks," but when they finally do, they soar beyond places Coldplay has ever been. Chris Martin is at his peak, and this stuff is going to rock in concert. Critics who were too quick to judge this masterpiece will soon realize they knocked one of the great albums of the past 20 years. Expand

X&Y is just what Coldplay needed to put out. Sure it didn't reinvent the wheel, but as Chris Martin says it did put new rims on the old wheel. Johnny's guitar playing ha gotten more bold, the songs are chock full of passion and it's a perfect follow up album. Love it so much, and probably won't stop listening to it for a month. This is one of those records that takes more than one listen. The first time I listened to it through, I didn't really get it all. It didn't seem as good as ROBTTH. But after more listens, I find it to be a masterpiece. Like it or not, this is the album Coldplay will be remembered for.

brilliant. Don't forget that 'A Rush of Blood...' took a while to sear itself on our brains. The same thing is happening with X&Y. Bring on No. 4 when you are ready, Chris.

This album rocks! The songs there are just so soothing! Those people who says that it isn't good does not have any taste! Th song For You is so soothing that it makes you feel 'high' and makes you feel like you are flying! Very suitable to listen to during airplane flights! 10 Thumbs Up!

This is Coldplay's best album. They have finally reached U2-like status with their lyrical content and musical styles. Best song on the album, "Talk" is also, in my opinion, the best song of 2005.

This is simply the best album i have ever heard. A cocktail of beautifull songs mixed with a strange sense of darkness that i have not heard since Radiohead's Ok Computer. It sends shivers through your bones. Breath taking!

AWE-INSPIRING. Although AROBTTH still remains my favourite Coldplay album, x&y breaks new ground. You have to give it time to sink in and to get used to it, but when you do, it's worth it. Coldplay will always be my favourite band, with lyrics, creativity, and talent that I don't think I'll find anywhere else.

Where to begin... well, 'Square One' starts off the album. It's hard to believe, but I used to hate Coldplay... this song got me hooked and brought me to actually listen to the whole album. Now I LOVE Coldplay! For a band to hit 3 homeruns on their first 3 albums... they are truly great! My other fav's are 'Fix You', 'Low', 'Message', and Where to begin... well, 'Square One' starts off the album. The first time I listened to this CD, I wasn't too thrilled. But since then, I've found myself listening to it once or more everyday.

[Coldplay] have made their masterpiece. [Jun 2005, p.112]
  2. Confident, bold, ambitious, bunged with singles and impossible to contain, ‘X&Y’ doesn’t reinvent the wheel but it does reinforce Coldplay as the band of their time.
  3. They have chosen to opt for the standard formula: it's elegiac, mid-tempo, stadium-friendly ballads all the way.
