    Milk Maid's songs are a little overfamiliar in their approach, relying too much on the crude clash of sunny melodies against serrated sound. But part of the reason why so many bands return to this style is that it's easy to reproduce and has a basic appeal--so catchy, so rough.

    It's softer feel also illustrates the dynamic range Cohen has as a songwriter on his first solo outing, one that isn't especially revelatory or inventive, but does offer a solid starting point for the second chapter of his career.

    Yucca is pure pop primitivism that's all distorted vocals and fuzzy guitar swirls, just like The Jesus And Mary Chain never happened. [Aug 2011, p.126]
