Yet who knew that it would inspire a whole new generation of artists from all genres? This album itself brought about many flourishing aspects within the colorful world of music. The appreciation this album had at first was little to zero. Yet if you look closely, people on this event website state that this will change the world of music forever. And that’s exactly what it did.

From artists like Lil Uzi Vert, to Juice World. This album inspired MANY individuals of yesterday’s youth. The messages from each and every song were hard to decipher at first. But this display of wondrous emotions riddled with sadness and depression, depict a beautiful painting of an album. Songs like “Bad News”, “Heartless”, and “Love Lockdown” are true testaments towards the art of melodic hip-hop, expressive lyrical creations, and what was occurring within the mind of a genius known as Kanye West.

Hopefully, those who gave this album a rather distasteful review back in 08’, managed to see what this album truly was years later. That’s what’s happened to a lot of individuals.

Hate it or not, 808’s And Heartbreaks has managed to change the musical landscape forever. Kanye West was ahead of the game. The problem was, we were trailing behind.

But it seems as though nowadays people are finally beginning to perceive this piece of musical art for what it truly is. In all of its greatness.

A few months ago, I decided to give this album another shot. it was previously one of my least favorite albums of all time, but I always thought I should give it another shot. Well, I did and I was completely immersed into the world of the album, listening to it practically every moment I was awake. There's not one skip on it; even the worst songs on the album are truly amazing.

Not only is it a brilliant dive into Kanye's mind at the time, but it's one of the most influential albums of modern times, if not ever, influencing hip hop to this day.

I previously gave this album a 1, before listening to it again and discovering its greatness. I decided to leave the review here to remind me how drastically tastes and opinions can change in the span of just a year.
    Here's the review:

This album is one Kanye's worst albums. I love Heartless. I was once addicted to the song and listened to it several times a day. Even now, I go back to Heartless at least a few times a week. Again, I love Heartless, but Heartless is the only song on this album that I like, and the only reason why I didn't give this album a 0. I hate every other song on the album.
Maybe I have to give this album another chance, but at least for now, this album's a 1.

808's is Kanye's most important album in my opinion. Although I believe a few of the songs miss really hard like Amazing, personally I really liked it. This was Kanye's therapy project in a time where his mental health was at risk and what he provided was a different singing, autotune orientated project that inspired a lot of artist that thrive today like Lil Uzi Vert and Juice WRLD. Songs like Heartless and Welcome To Heartbreak present this versatility Kanye has that no one had seen before which partly was at fault for its poor reception at first and how it grew on people over time. Only a year after the great 'Graduation' Kanye goes back to work to produce '808s Heartbreak' which totally varies by its style, the themes adressed and its structure. No doubt that the overly famous 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' already was in gestation as it was meant to come out two years later.

As its title suggests this project significantly gravitate around the concepts of love, rupture and loss. Anyway Kanye surprisingly made the choice to rap and sing less in order to let even more place to the music itself. This choice make the production appear to the fore. And this one is particular as it often sounds repetitive, overly simple and sometimes looking effortless. The first track 'Say You Will' is a perfect example as it simply consists in 6 minutes of the same repetitive monotone beat. And it goes the same way for the second half on 'Bad News'. If it can contribute to the charm of the project it surely also makes it seem more shallow and superficial than it is as it underlines Kanye's lack of artistic and content ideas. It reduces this album replayability. The track 'Robocop' is really weird as I find its production both deep and original and dull with its robotic useless repetitve sounds. 'Pinocchio Story' also made me cring a bit. What idea is this to put a 6 minute-long live track as outro of such an album ?

The presence of Kid Cudi is a miracle since him and Kanye are meant to work in duo in order to craft some of the most powerful songs and albums (like 'Kids See Ghosts' to only cite one). Their symbiosis is truly impressive. Excepted him the other guests also bring more versatility to the whole content and deliver some interesting verses.

When a young heartbroken rap star tries to write a sentimental pop album 808's and heartbreak is what you get. Even if the lyrics and beat seem simple or repetitive and the autotune is overused it all contributes to the mood of the project. This is far from Kanye's best but I still enjoyed it a lot.

This is a very interesting and a cool effort of Kanye into pop. But due to the repetitive nature of the album, it felt like it went on and on. You can see this in the opening track. The album is great production wise but I prefer Kanye's albums that are closer to the hip-hop side.

Auto-tune to dobra zabawa i zakładanie z góry, że używanie go to nietakt psuje pewną wolność twórczą i chęć wyrażania siebie. Ok, zgoda.

"See you in my Nightmares" to chyba najgorsza piosenka jaką słyszałem w całej dyskografii KW. Just no.

This album is not really rap anymore, but Kanye West is at his best. He's like a lonely prince, with a spleen glorified by Auto tune, which gives poignant tones to his voice. 808s and heartbreak is really mind-blowing, displaying Kanye's vulnerability and blues, as futuristic as primitive. I think that people hate it not because it was a bad album, but because it was a lane change and the fact that it was inconsistent with his previous 3 efforts and the beast of an album that followed. But that does not take away from the brilliance of it. However, that's a small portion of why this album deserves a 10.

This album has had such a profound effect on Hip-Hop and R'n'B, it's unreal. It's because of 808s that rappers have become more emotional with their lyrics. Some artists this album influenced includes but is not restricted to:
    Frank Ocean
    The Weeknd
    B.o.B
    Kid Cudi
DRAKE. BIG TIME. So Far Gone and Take Care are oozing with 808s influence!
Another small portion of why this album deserves a 10.

The biggest reason this album ranks so high for me is because it's a huge turning point in Kanye's career. He made an album as to how he FELT at the time and alienated a large portion of his audience in a potential career killing move and made it out alive. Not many artists can not only come back after such an experiment, but produce such a magnificent Opus in it's wake.

This album will get the praise and recognition it truly deserves in due time.

"808s & HB" is what happened when a temporarily-depressed Hip-hop artist made a pop album... and it worked.

Kanye uses auto-tune in an artistic way rather than an excuse for lack of talent. The auto-tune mixes well with the cold, electronic-influenced production and lyrics, which revolve around different types of heartbreak.

Terrific album, unlike any other of Kanyes releases. The album is unique in that it's beats are much more 'electronic' and 'depressive', yet oh so catchy.
As usual, Kanyes emotions and feelings are portrayed in song, and it was during a difficult time that the album was made, so it's simple to understand it's depressive stance. Really good album.

Initial skeptics would be wise to listen to the album in its entirety because its minimalist and stark compositions actually work better on the album than in the majority of the singles from this album. 'Paranoid' remains Kanye's best pop single by far, while 'Coldest Winter' and 'Robocop' provide further evidence of the electronic genius bubbling under what has become an unfairly maligned album.

After the loss of his mother and the breakup with his girlfriend, Kanye was living in the doldrums for a while. And this album is the result of his sad soul poured on to a 12-track compact disc.

Critics didn't expect much except failure for 808s. The idea of a good rapper doing a whole album in Auto-Tune seems pretty hard to swallow. But the day Love Lockdown premiered, I knew that the track was different yet beautiful and that the album would not be as bad as it was predicted to be. The bass like beat and Kanye's poignant lyrics and vocals really put me in a trance. A few months later when Heartless came out, I felt more than ready for the album.

It isn't that bad. Ye gives pain at its most futuristic and most painful. He is a heartbroken robot searching for love while also lamenting it. His emotions are so real even if they are transmitted from this weird box. It only emphasizes his dark situation. He tries to comfort himself saying he feels great and unafraid but we all know the room of despair he keeps within.

But the album is repetitive not just in content but also in production. Beats feel overused and at times boring. And guest spots don't really help much save for Kid Cudi's chorus on Welcome To Heartbreak. Otherwise, Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne don't seem like right choices for a melancholic album like this (really, a slow and overrated rapper and a high-pitched Weezy who wants to be a singer).

But Ye still shines on an otherwise decent album. It definitely isn't the statement of his career but it is a good look at the egoistic Louis Vuitton Don's heart.
