Not great at all. A lot of the songs are bland, repetitive & boring with nothing really to offer. The best songs are by Dua Lipa & Charlie XCX. I have nothing really else to add. I didn't really go in expecting much anyway.

A few hits, but far too many forgettable misses.

Highlights with high quality production include Dance the Night by Dua Lipa and Choose Your Fighter by Ava Max; perhaps because they don't sound forced to fit inside the Barbie world. There are a few pleasant easy-listening tracks: Hey Blondie by Dominic Fike and Silver Platter by Khalid. If bubble gum pop is what you're looking for

There are a few pleasant easy-listening tracks: Hey Blondie by Dominic Fike and Silver Platter by Khalid. If bubble gum pop is what you're looking for Barbie World by Fifty Fifty will likely fit the bill, harking back to the early 2000s Britney sound.

The opening track by Lizzo is just bland and unimaginative for such a normally catchy artist.. Even Barbie World by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice seems incredibly predictable with the same rapping you've already heard a thousand times and the Aqua sample being only thing that breathes any life into this track. The lamenting What Was I Made For? by Billie Eilish is so slight and underwhelming as to barely exist.

As the soundtrack for one of the biggest "event" movies of the year and with such a high calibre of artists, this is a weak collection of 17 tracks. [5/17 = 3.4]

Barbie: The Album is a celebration as colorful and uplifting as the movie itself, and both are highly recommended.

The only dud is GAYLE’s ‘butterflies’, which does nothing more than showcase the record’s corporate origins. Sampling a Y2K hit would have surely looked good on paper at some point; in reality it’s a confused mish-mash of sounds, the sample appearing as an add-on, the newcomer without the star power of her peers here to hint lyrically at anything of note. That aside, life in plastic does indeed sound fantastic.

We get some huge heavy hitters who do very good-to-great work. But the record sinks into pink slush during the so-so-filler tracks. Although there are some fantastic high points and some tacky low points, Barbie: The Album still manages to pull through with a cheeky victory, even if it’s qualified.
