I'm a diehard Oasis fan but even I can accept that their work from 1997-2002 has been less then stellar. My favourite Oasis album is Don't Believe The Truth and Definitely Maybe. This album is sensitive and powerful. first two album was singin' about the Youth, but this album is about the Grown-Up people's story(that people are all members of Oasis) more wise, more calm but still powerful and strong.

Better than Morning Glory, after expecting a decade spent on cruise control Oasis have surprised and produced their second best album. The dad rock and the half ass flag waving anthems are gone from this album and replaced with just solid songs that show depth and variation. Highlights would be The Importance Of Being Idle. The next two albums resembled the Star Wars prequals - both pretty much sucked but still appealed to their core audience (virgins for Star Wars, Anglophiles for Oasis), who tried to convince anyone and everyone there was inherit merit in the movies and albums on the sheer basis that it was a Star Wars movie or an Oasis album. With Don't Believe the Truth (and Sith), the Star Wars analogy becomes complete, whereby both franchises have redeemed themselves. I want to apologize. Here's the deal, as though you don't already know how these things go... One good album, one great album. Then we sort of fell asleep in the van, on the plane, whatever. "Opportunity knocks, but rarely lingers", I want to apologize. Here's the deal, as though you don't already know how these things go... One good album, one great album. Then we sort of fell asleep in the van, on the plane, whatever. The food was good, we were able to take advantage of our label's generosity - tantrums, pharmacy problems, infighting between my brother and I. "Opportunity knocks, but rarely lingers", my friends. Years after our early successes we were ready to take names and work hard. By that time, we were like a half-assembled version of the Dead post Garcia. There were no longer names engraved on our dressing rooms, just NG written on duct tape. We realised that we'd chased the dragon to the end of the line. And yet - there were still all these receipts lying around, waiting for payment. The record you will invariably and blindly purchase is the sum of that singular ambition - to pay the bills. I apologize, we may do better next time. It really doesn't matter, I guess. I am, however, really digging the new Spoon album - buy that and experience some really great music - just like we used to make! Wow, what a treat! Expand

This is a class album that takes time to grow on you. It doesn't smack you in the face like Morning Glory but then very few albums from anybody have. With 3 or 4 listens you start to really appreciate the musical gems present here like the piano in 'Love like a Bomb' or the harmonica on the otherwise uninvolving 'Mucky Fingers', which is probably the hardest song This is a class album that takes time to grow on you. With 3 or 4 listens you start to really appreciate the musical gems present here like the piano in 'Love like a Bomb' or the harmonica on the otherwise uninvolving 'Mucky Fingers', which is probably the hardest song to warm to here. Unusually, the single 'Lyla' is probably the best track (that just tells you how good it is) but 'Turn Up The Sun' is a typically fabulous opener, 'Guess God Thinks I'm Abel' is the best song Liam has ever written by miles, and 'Let There Be Love' is simply beautiful with Liam's best vocal in years. The musical craftsmanship of this song and also 'The Importance Of Being Idle' highlights best the departure this album has made but it's all good, which is the main thing. 'Part of the Queue' is a Noel classic anthem but while 'Keeping the Dream Alive' and 'A Bell Will Ring' are good songs in their own right, I think they will ultimately be forgotten. Overall, a great effort from Oasis 2005. Expand

A great album. It's amazing to see how there are a lot of people who gave it '0' or '2-3', its a clear signal that Oasis still bothers many people over the world, just to love them or hate them. Still one of the best bands in the world.

This is a different Oasis record. I believe no song will be a superb hit as the ones in DM or WTSMG but 11 nice tunes that are worth listening to. However this could be a turning point for Oasis so critics and fans stop comparing every release with their first studio albums.

El mejor disco desde "What´s the story..." pero lejos de convertirse en un disco recordable de la historia musical

In my opinion Oasis probably will never be able to top it's first two albums Definetly Maybe and Morning Glory, but while this CD is semi-mediocre it does still have some good stuff in it. Recommended tracks are the importance of being idle, meaning of soul, let there be love, and lyla. True, Oasis will never top their earlier success, but how many bands do? After having an enormously successful album, only a very few bands can top it and they certainly can never live up to the hype and expectations. Great songs... Lyla is a classic Oasis lead single... Meaning of Soul is a no frills rocker... The Importence of Being Idle goes places you don't expect- great song. A Bell Will Ring and Let There Be Love are also great. Sadly, a lot of these "reviews" don't focus on the album- standing alone. Which makes a lot of these critics look really dumb. A much better effort than the previous 2 albums who try'd to immitate the originals. The songs have been written by diffeernt members of the band giving each song quite differnt sounds and influences, some are still mediocore and seems noels melody writing ability is being lost only penning 5 songs.

Noel's only good song on this one is "Part Of The Queue". The standout tracks on the album are actually Andy's "Keep The Dream Alive" and Gem's "A Bell Will Ring". 10 years is way too long a time to be continually mediocre.

Oh yes, Oasis the band most critics love to hate. That's what you get for being arrogant pricks or just plain belligerent most of the time. But I've been a huge fan since Definitely Maybe and have stuck with them even through their recent misses. This album is catchy most of the way through, and that's all I need from this self-admitted '60's nostalgia act. Oh yes, Oasis the band most critics love to hate. And who says need to be friendly or original to write a good album anyway? Expand

Generally favorable reviews - based on 28 Critic Reviews

Critic score distribution:
  1. Positive: 13 out of 28
  2. Negative: 5 out of 28
  1. Yes, the rumors are true: Oasis has--for the first time in a decade--made an album worth hearing.
  2. Mediocre melodies ride atop formulaic songwriting.
  3. In the end, it's Oasis's attempts to capture former pinnacles, from trying to re-create the simple sunny-side-up pleasures of "Live Forever" to trying for another album-ending mountain like "Champagne Supernova," that keep their latter-day output so entirely forgettable.
