  • Summary: This debut (and, it turns out, final album) from the noisy London trio was produced by James Ford (Simian).
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 11 out of 23
  2. Negative: 0 out of 23
  1. The UK trio is hard, fast, and viciously catchy, but above all scary.
  2. If you can get past the hype, you'll find that For Screening Purposes Only is a solid, sometimes spectacular debut from an exciting group of young'uns.
  3. 80
Sheer liquid mayhem. [Dec 2005, p.98]
  4. Unfortunately, it must be said that the results of this musical experiment aren't always as successful as they might have hoped.
  5. 60
It's all far more familiar than might be expected. [Nov 2005, p.111]
  6. For Screening Purposes Only is rock without a filter.
  7. They've become a word-of-mouth sensation on the basis of their live shows, which must be amazing, because in their recorded form the Icicles are generic metal caterwaulers.

Experimental, Dangerous, and Brilliant. Test Icicles re-invent music with a daunting future-sight. Probably the best record I've bought over the last 6 months. Shame it's gonna be their last. Expand

I love it. Everything sounds like it could fall apart at any second, and that's exactly the kind of loud, decadent, new noise I've been looking for while I wait for the next Blood Brothers release. Expand

Ok, I'll admit, there are patchy bits - Maintain The Focus and Party On Dudes are particularly (and, based on the strength of some amazing demo cuts, peculiarly) forgettable, but overall the welding of noise and chaos to dance-able melodies and interesting structures makes this at once terrifying and electrifying. Awesome. Expand

Highly enjoyable stuff. If you're into experimental, noise and dance-punk, you should check this out. Their live performance is out of this world! Expand
