With Home, Before and After, Spektor surely proves she is a songwriter for the ages.

This is a colourful, energised collection of work from an artist who could comfortably stay in her own lane, but chooses not to.

For her eighth studio album, Home, before and after, she animates ten unpredictable tracks with a combination of elegant piano accompaniment, overtly playful pop, and a return to dramatic symphonic fare, often within the same song.

She’s made another very good album, her first in six years. [Jul 2022, p.33]

This incisive, empathetic collection is among her strongest. [Jul - Aug 2022, p.120]

The addition of older tracks onto Home can constrain Spektor’s artistic growth more generally, like on “SugarMan” – which stretches food metaphors to their absolute limit and lacks the staying power of Spektor’s best tracks. However, at their best, the songs of Home feel akin to a warm hug on a cold day.

It's when Spektor is less showy and more direct that her songs are most affecting. [Aug 2022, p.86]

Regina, thank you so much for this. It has touched me in so many ways. Thank you for being a real, genuine, questioning soul in this f***ed upRegina, thank you so much for this. It has touched me in so many ways. Thank you for being a real, genuine, questioning soul in this f***ed up world. You have been there for me and so many others in so many ways for decades. I am so sorry for your loss; so so so sorry. I know the existential questions only get harder during that time, especially for a dreamer who is not easily fooled into easy answers. I am so happy you are a mom to two wonderful kids - who get to grow up with a role model who is deep, thoughtful, loving, creative, and a dreamer. And a critical thinker. I am so grateful you found time to build beautiful worlds out of the melodies bursting out of your music box, even ones we've known for years. Even amidst your familial priorities. All these stories hold so much meaning and truth and I hope we get more in the future Expand

I honestly don't get the hype for this album. This album reeks. I've listened to it about 3 times and I still don't like it one bit.
