  1. Combining vaudeville melodies alongside a quirky pop sensibility lifts the eleven songs here above the merely angular and takes us to a unique space, and probably not somewhere everyone would want to go, but to my ears Moonwink's only real flaw is its brevity.
  2. Filter

There are sometimes a little too many knowing winks in all the escalator chords and wordless chants, but you can't help but wink back. [Fall 2008, p.98]
  3. 70
Moonwink's manic tunes are miniature rock'n'roll extravaganzas, with intricate melodies and airtight, detailed arrangements providing a dramatic setting for chamingly woozy singer Nick Krill. [Nov 2008, p.102]
  4. New Musical Express (NME)
    70
The second half is noticeably weaker than the first and the constant perkiness will grate if you're in anything other than a blinding mood, but there's plenty here to appreciate and it's perfect iPod fodder. [Sep 2008, p.46]
  5. Moonwink is a very good album by most standards, except by comparison to "Nicely Done."
  6. Against this lack of innovation is the Spinto Band’s effortless charisma and juvenile charm.
  7. Given that this is the Delaware band's seventh album, their exuberance is honourable. Several bursts later, however, and you're reaching for the pacifier. That's not to say that there's craft in the madness.
  8. Q Magazine

The Spinto Band offer a softer, watered-down version of '90s US indie-rock--their influences include Pavement but now also Prefab Sprout. [Oct 2008, p.150]
  9. Following up the their well-received 2006 effort, "Nice and Nicely Done," Delaware indie rockers Spinto Band deliver more angular, rambunctiously creative pop on 2008's Moonwink.
  10. Their latest record has more instruments and lyrical or melodic turns than hooks to hold onto, but its problem is more like an excess of ideas than a lack of them.
  11. Had this been a debut album perhaps it would have been better received, however, the shadow of the successful first album looms heavy here and may just have listeners reaching for the older material rather than the current.
  12. The Spinto Band are genuinely highly impressive musicians, they're still as creative as ever, cramming riffs and off-kilter rhythms into their songs like clothes into a brimful suitcase, but creativity isn't always synonymous with good music.
  13. Under The Radar
    50
The record practically bludgeons the listener with playfulness, becoming the rarest of indie-rock birds:a record (and a band) that begs for more self-seriousness. [Fall 2008, p.78]
  14. There's a lot to love about the Spinto Band, but it's a fine line the band treads between catchy quirkiness and spastic annoyance.
