This is truly my favourite album of this year. My favourite song would be Monster with Bon Iver, Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj. This is my favourite album of all-time and I would 110% recommend this to any rap fan.

There are a lot of great tracks on here, "Monster", "Devil in a New Dress" and "Lost in the World" are the best tracks. I could see this years from now still being a good listen but it's not perfect. Tracks "Blame Game" and "Power" are incredibly listenable but are definitely the weakest tracks.

Probably the best Kanye's album, the one that he worked the hardest on, the best thing about it is, even if you didn't like some song on it (somehow) you will still remember it. Ungodly production.

All great artists need inspiration. And there isn't much stronger inspiration like becoming a social pariah and consistently being deemed a problem, even if your intentions are good. The positive side of such drama is it makes for fuel to an artist's fire. Being one of the most talented hip-hop icons of the last decade, Kanye allowed that fuel to generate an inferno in his new CD, My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasy. Unlike 808s and Heartbreaks where his inspiration was more of a personal loss, Kanye's new inspiration is anger, hurt, embarrassment and redemption, if not socially, then at least personally. The production is grand, just like Kanye's ego, but also representative of the message he wants to send. Anyone who is in tune with Kanye's work could always separate his public **** from his artistic genius. It's impossible to be able hate this work without allowing personal feelings about Kanye or hip-hop to make its way into your criticism. Empirically, hip-hop very rarely gets this good. Kanye has done the best job anyone could ever hope to do when conveying intense feelings via their chosen artistic conduit. Lyrically, of course there are elements of the hip-hop culture that those who are not fans of choose to point to and hate, such as cursing and the dreaded N word. This is unique music, though. From the sampling, layers of music, themes, singing and, yes, rapping, Kanye has the right ingredients to cook the tastiest stew. Expand

The highlight of the album, Monster, is worth the ticket price alone, with Jay Z's verse interlocking with West's production to unleash a few seconds of intelligent dance music, created from distorted samples and rap vocals, West has created something which is as advanced as technology and his brain can allow it to be; which places him above the rest.

From the goosebump-inducing perfect intro track that is Dark Fantasy to the epic two-part outro that is Lost In the World and Who Will Survive In America (based on a sample from Gil Scott-Heron's "Comment No.1"), this album is almost flawless. All Of theFrom the goosebump-inducing perfect intro track that is Dark Fantasy to the epic two-part outro that is Lost In the World and Who Will Survive In America (based on a sample from Gil Scott-Heron's "Comment No.1"), this album is almost flawless. Gorgeous might be the best rapping performance of Kanye's career as well as arguably his best lyrics. Power is the perfect hype song. All Of the Lights is almost a mini "We Are the World" considering how many artists make their appearance on the song (Elton John, Rihanna, Drake, Fergie, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Kid Cudi and even more!). The track Monster features a strong performance by Kanye and a decent one by Jay Z, but it is Nicki Minaj who kills it on this track spitting the arguably best verse of her entire career. So Appalled does also feature quite a few names but is easily one of the weaker cuts (not that there are any WEAK tracks on this masterpiece) on the album. It simply drags on a bit too long. Pusha T delivers a fantastic verse as usual though. Devil In A New Dress is built on a haunting Smokey Robinson sample and once again features a strong verse by Kanye but it is the fantastic verse by Rick Ross that make the song. Runaway, which happens to be my favorite song of all time, is pretty much the perfect song in my opinion. Kanye's vulnerable vocals and lyrics, Pusha T's verse, the lengthy outro of distorted vocals. The piano, oh god the piano. The album is already an incredible work of art before Runaway but Runaway gives it that extra boost which makes it one of the greatest albums ever made in my honest opinion. Hell Of A Life works great at a workout track but feels almost unfinished. It's still a good track nonetheless but the production work, as well as the lyrics, don't match the calibre the rest of this album has to offer. Blame Game features Kanye in a vulnerable state once again and although the Chris Rock outro might get tiresome after the 100th listen, it was still a great idea to add him to the track. I just wish his part was a skit after the song, which I think would have given the track a better replay value. Lost In the World / Who Will Survive In America rightfully serves as a perfect closure to an almost perfect album. Superb production, fantastic features, and great lyricism. The whole album features a unique and beautifully epic atmosphere that sticks with you throughout the whole album. Few albums can make me feel like I'm in another dimension, but this is surely one of those few. But then again, this is just my opinion.

    My Rating: 10/10

Favorite Tracks: Runaway, Gorgeous, Dark Fantasy

Least Favourite Tracks: Hell Of A Life, So Appalled

However it never feels overloaded, and its power resides in its intelligent use of featured artists and some excellent choices regarding the numerous samples from all genres and eras. The album kind of makes a portrait of a lost man, but it does make sense as a whole. Some verses could’ve been under more scrutiny but it ends up being an embarrassment of great stirring tracks that never fall into the need for category. Its baroque influences and deep examination of himself and what surrounds him whether it’s real or imaginary make the record very unique and calling it the best album of 2010 isn't really an overstatement.

Masterpiece. The pinnacle of Kanye, it's wonderful and everything he is and how he gives it to us is so nice, to a point romantic and at the same time possessive, I don't know how to explain myself but wow.

Best album of the decade, too soon? Absolutely not! All tracks are given such work and passion. The one problem though with this album is that it is always sad, will we ever hear any of the hilarious tracks from Yeezy like Gold Digger or the skits that he has done in the past? Hopefully no, but we'll never know until we see a new album on his facebook or wikipedia. Rating the tracks: 1.Best album of the decade, too soon? Absolutely not! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The greatest gift music has given the earth is its expression. Some of the most beautiful, haunting music is inspired by the most painful moments of an individual's life, think of "For Emma, Forever Ago" or "Pinkerton". So it's no surprise that Kanye West's most inspired, maniacal, and inglorious music was made during a time when the whole world seemed to hate his guts. Sure President Obama repeatedly called him a "jackass" and Taylor Swift now probably throws darts at a picture of his face, but damn the music that resulted from all the self-loathing and self-pity from his self-enforced exile is impressive. Controversy suits Mr. West well, and amazingly the music featured steals the stop-light from his turbulent life. The opening "Dark Fantasy" boasts a triumphant, angelic chorus and sharp lyrical word play that references everything from "Family Matters" to The Kings of Leon, early fan favorite "POWER" is every bit magnificent and moving as its title suggests, "All of the Lights" is a mainstream ready single that features an elegant piano interlude, but it all builds up to the climax "Runaway". The song is hauntingly disarming. Its blunt, unforgiving, uncomfortable, and beautiful. This is the sound of West's life crystalized, it captures all the noisy chatter of the media and his self-hatred into a song that is real in a way that few songs can hope to achieve. All in all this album is a tour-de-deforce and easily West's best work. It may just make you forget whoever Kanye West is, because this isn't just the work of a man; it's the work of his soul. Expand

Kanye West does everything right on this album.

The incredibly luscious and grandiose production combines the greatness off all his previous albums. The soulfulness of his early work and the electronic influences of the Graduation- and 808s & Heartbreak-eras. Lyrically Kanye explores the contrasting juxtaposition between self-aggrandizement, and self-doubt and self-loathing.

Kanye returns with a very strong actual rap album. This is the album that has stirred inside his head for 20 years. Despite the fame, money, and women, he truly is a psychologically troubled individual who straddles the line between unbridled ego and unbearable agony. He is a black William Burroughs - the "American Rapper."

All the guest acts bring their A-game (Hey, I didn't entirely hate Fergie in All of the Lights), and not a single song on the album is forgettable.

Album do którego zmierzał cały gatunek i wszystkie eksperymenty Ye, jednymi słowy najlepsze, najważniejsze hip hopowe dzieło jakie powstało. Pierwsze dwa albumy Kanye Westa wyniosły hip hop z ulic na salony, piąty album Kanye Westa nadał hip hopowi rangę najprawdziwszej sztuki.

Album łączy w sobie wszystkie dotychczasowe osiągnięcia Westa, wszystkie mocne strony poprzednich albumów, od figlarności TCD, głębi LR, przystępności Graduation, emocjonalności i eksperymentalnego podejścia 808s.

For a radio success, I really can't find a single song that could be a success on Billboard's Hot 100, and that's perfect for people like me who prefers albums to singles. Without a doubt the best album to be released this year. It's good from start to finish and it's a shining example of what current rap music should sound like. Just when I was ready to count Kanye out of the game - let's face it, it's a long fall from The College Dropout to 808s and Heartbreak - he delivers this, probably the strangest and most unpredictable album mainstream hip hop has ever seen. Arguably the pinnacle of modern hip-hop, Kanye's production and creativity have reached unseen heights in MBDTF. Seriously, give it a listen, and keep giving it the attention it deserves. This album is damn good.

This album is fantastic. This is my second favorite hip hop album ever, behind only TPAB. This album is a quintessential magnum opus and represents the most important moment in Kanye’s career. The big middle fingered apology that is MBDTF solidifies his persona and what he would mean to the music industry for years to come. He knows he’s a bit of an **** but he is 100% unapologetically Kanye West. While he isn’t always the best lyricist, he has some of his brightest moments on this album, and there aren’t any lyrics that make me cringe or want to stop listening. He gets deep enough to boast about his lyrical ability (especially on Power) but he also does a good job of making his messages pretty easy to understand. Every feature does their part, besides maybe the Fergie verse on All Of The Lights, which might be my only true criticism to the album. I genuinely enjoy the album all the way through. Expand

No doubt, this is Kanye's best album and overall one of the best of the past decade. The production is just sensational, some of the most creative sounds i have ever heard, always changing, never stale. The features are accurate, i loved Kid Cudi, Pusha and everyone who was on Monster (yes, even Nicki Minaj, who i really dislike, but had the second best feat on this song). The songs come together like puzzle pieces, crafted almost in a perfect way by Ye.
This album is just a musical genius, it raised the bar for every rap album, the amount of effort put into this project is massive.
A creative masterpiece, which redefined Kanye's music and persona into one of the best, if not the best, rap artist of all time.

FAVOURITE SONGS: Dark Fantasy, Gorgeous (10/10), All of the Lights, Monster, Devil in a New Dress, Runaway, Blame Game, Power
LEAST FAVOURITE: Hell of a Life (still a 7/10)

Disgusting album. Every song sounds like trash except for Monster, only because Nicki is in it. I don’t know why he ever made music to begin with. He is totally irrelevant and a delusional Trump supporter.

What the actual hell is the album and what importance does it show. One of biggest pet peeves is how many people actually claim this to be "the best rap album of all time" and Kanye is a lyrical messiah and A Good Shepard". Excuse me ….. why? The album is literally going on about how deranged and mentally ill he portrays himself and claims that his music is to heal the human mind and soul. What the actual hell is the album and what importance does it show. The album is literally going on about how deranged and mentally ill he portrays himself and claims that his music is to heal the human mind and soul. Well, I got news for you Mr. West, my wife divorced me and took all the kids and … my money because they were so in love with your male masculine propaganda of an album. I hope my wife doesn't go the extra mile my next child North or Psalm. You sickening me. Let this review sink in to your soul Mr. West, know that the devil doesn't actually have a new dress, instead wears baggy clothes, occasionally has a really nice red suit jacket and pants, and wants to have intercourse with a flamingo/human hybrid. You are that devil. This is really the music that has me in the deepest darkest stages of my life. You aren't the savior of my life, you are the destroyer of it. Your sins cannot be healed. You have to live with them. Expand

West is far from rap's deftest lyricist but his neurotic grandstanding is compelling and often pretty funny to boot. [Feb 2011, p.84]
