This Is Happening - LCD Soundsystem
This Is Happening Image
  • Summary: The third album for the dance-rock band is reportedly James Murphy's last as LCD Soundsystem.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 34 out of 38
  2. Negative: 0 out of 38
  1. This Is Happening is looking back on a life well lived and well learned, the final cap on a perfect career.
  2. Murphy is still a brat, but this is a more emotionally mature and personal album than most of us thought him capable of.
  3. 60
Familiar elements (Nancy Wang's cheerleading vocals, sparse instrumentation colliding, lyrical misanthropy) are present and correct, but everything is bolder and deeper. [June 2010, p. 93]

  1. This is Happening won’t likely win over new converts; James Murphy hasn’t made any drastic changes to his rock/dance style. But that’s not a bad thing, for LCD Soundsystem has been one of the most unique sounding bands from the 2000’s. Again, Murphy is the master of building songs with layers of instruments and making subtle changes to keep tracks interesting. The lyrics range from silly (One Touch, Pow Pow) to sentimental (I Can Change, All I Want), but regardless of the song’s subject matter, the songs still rock hard and make you want to dance. The songs are slow cookers and will seem repetitive to some, but I’ve honestly grooved to this album almost every day since its release. If this is LCD Soundsystem’s last CD then it’s a hell of a way to end things. Arguably 2010’s best. SWEET TRACKS: Drunk Girls, One Touch, All I Want, I Can Change Expand

By far LCD's worst effort yet. A sad recycling of the other albums. These lyrics are whack.
