The production on the album is mostly solid but not anything special or revolutionary. However, on a rap album, the raps are what makes and breaks the album. The raps on here are hits and miss. Some of the rappers came with heat, others did not.

All told, the LP stands as a convincing counterargument against those who claim hip-hop’s ’90s golden era can’t come back again.

The highlights continue, and come from many different styles of underground hip-hop, so put Statik somewhere between Tony Touch and the Alchemist on the short list of producers/DJs who also offer solid albums.

While the compilation deejay/producer album tends to have it’s share of woes as too many cooks spoil the broth, Statik Selektah balances out this tendency with solid production that invokes images of the days of Hip Hop yore.
