Feb 23, 2018Although not every song is essential in its own right, as a whole, All At Once congeals beautifully; in the era of the single, this is a real album, touching on themes of autonomy and control both in a personal and a wider political context.
-
Feb 21, 2018There’s an artful use of simplicity here to the extent that these songs don’t sound simple at all- they are massive, moving, and multifaceted- but never are they bland. Rather, instead of punching note after note down our ears, Screaming Females make every pluck, every single thwap, single second, do something to advance the album. When every single element counts, the whole thing feels that much more important.

Feb 26, 2018From the patient, rising tension and ecstatic release of the Black Sabbath-esque opening of ‘Glasshouse,’ right through to the heady-guitar-noodling-meets-full-throttle-pop-punk of closer, ‘Step Outside,’ Screaming Females manage to keep things, not just interesting, but wall-to-wall, grin-inducingly entertaining.
-
Feb 23, 2018It’s bracing to hear one of the most original practicing voices in rock (musically, vocally, lyrically) speaking so plainly on every level. With some bands it would mean a capitulation or slackening. For Screaming Females, it is just another display of power.

Mar 26, 2018All At Once suggests, in both form and content, that the human tragedies we keep dipping into can be healed by listening. Its you’s and I’s relate to each other, struggle toward dialogue. Even in rankled romance, listening is vital, probably even more so. The songs and styles wheel freely, matching their subjects.
-
Mar 12, 2018The intensity of the music and interplay between the trio remains firmly intact and stronger than ever.
-
Mar 5, 2018The record is energetic and often rollicking. Paternoster’s singing and intense guitar antics are center stage, but her longtime bandmates King Mike (bass) and Jarrett Dougherty (drums) are essential to the band’s potent combination of groove and snarl.
-
Feb 27, 2018There’s an ever-so-slight lack of the precariously raw noise that made Ugly so thrilling, but the crisp, imaginative songwriting redresses the balance.
-
Feb 23, 2018All at Once is just as clever, impassioned, and purposeful as we've come to expect from this band, and it's a truly rewarding listen.
-
Feb 23, 2018Even at it’s bleakest, All At Once is sheer rock’n’roll joy from start to finish.
-
Feb 23, 2018Though the songs on Rose Mountain were tighter than ever, the record felt like it was gritting its teeth, waiting for a fever to break. On All at Once, it does. Bayles is back, and so is the band’s storehouse of killer riffs.
-
Feb 21, 2018All at Once is an accomplished, expertly crafted album, the kind that’s the product of years slugging it out in dank basements and half-empty bars.
-
Feb 21, 2018In All At Once, the Garden State guitar heroes show they have as much, if not more, to say than ever before.
-
Feb 21, 2018On All at Once, Screaming Females possess an undiluted vision and seem to execute it flawlessly--and most significantly, without peer.
-
Under The RadarApr 4, 2018More sprawling and expansive than their previous record, All At Once still struggles to contain the myriad charms of this archetype power trio. [Mar-May 2018, p.59]
