A simple, superficial and initial listen could be rather disappointing, but ARTPOP truly is Lady Gaga's masterpiece so far. And one of the main reasons is definitely its informality of sound in the genre of pop and yet great and perfectly designed catchy melodies and hooks, which stand out and prove to lead the listener to a nearly psychedelic state of the spirit. And all that complimented with lyrical sweetness, joy and rage. Rage that mesmerizes the mind, a trip from planet to planet, condensed with sex and pain, with wisdom and immaturity.
It is a matter of fact that there are generally two ways to navigate through the work of Lady Gaga a pop and an art one. And that is no phenomenon of this album. One could simply unleash memories and emotions while listening to the galactic pop of Mother Monster or one could delve deeper into the meanings and milestones that she intricately embeds into her work. Jeff Koons or the Bible (in Born this Way) there is no emptiness of sense, of message in her work.
ARTPOP celebrates the achieved freedom of Born This Way. 'I own the world, we own the world" she declares. And most certainly this direct statement has its effect.
The only drawback that actually stands out is the production. And not that it is in any way bad. The feeling of the album is however a bit overproduced and a bit overqualified in terms of pop power. What I mean is that some of the tracks (Swine for instance) would have been more emotionally charged if it wasn't for the final sound of them. But perhaps that was the intention of it all to belong somewhat together.
A rap song irritates the ear at first but later becomes pleasing and fits in its place.
A 2 year pause proves to be beneficial to the album. If I could name it any other way ARCHPOP for its quality.

It is what it was intended to be: a fun, catchy, and very danceable album. It's not nearly as thematically complex or musically diverse as its predecessor "Born This Way," but Gaga stated from the beginning that this was intended to be an album with less maturity, and one that could make you dance from start to finish. It's not nearly as thematically complex or musically diverse as its predecessor "Born This Way," but Gaga stated from the beginning that this was intended to be an album with less maturity, and one that could make you dance from start to finish. But even so, there is something else there. It's not hollow pop, her messages are there if you look for them. I think the whole idea behind "artpop" is that Gaga isn't just about the fame, or the love, or the money, but about the message she gives and the people she inspires. Her Artpop--her message--could be anything, as she says in the album. I don't think people realize this. Her songs are still just as catchy as they were in "The Fame." Gaga has a pure gift for melody, and especially hooks, both melodic and lyrical.
I'm not a very big fan of pop at all. Too many artists doing too much of the same thing and too many of the same sounding songs. When I listen to a Gaga song, I always know it's her. You can just tell how involved she is in her music, and how passionate she is about it, and each and every song shines with her personality. Gaga is a luminary. Her music inspires people to truly be themselves, and this album is absolutely vital in that. While it may seem like a downgrade from the complexities of Born this Way, it's not. It's simply just another direction.

ARTPOP is everything and more than I’ve expected. This album is so feminine. VENUS, MANiCURE, DONATELLA, FASHION! I like that cosmic electronic atmosphere and the energy of the album. It's like all her albums mixed together. Those songs are so free. There are artists whose albums sound almost the same. Gaga's albums sound completely different from one another, but they have this Disco Gaga spice. I think the main purpose of this album to have a complete freedom and party, to forget all the insecurities and all the sad ballads, just have a complete techno raver pride of your identity! When listening to the whole album, in the end listening to GYPSY it makes you feel like a winner, like you’ve gone through so much and you just want to cry, but then that techno beat makes you feel so proud of what you’ve achieved and it just suddenly takes you to whole another dimension. It is very good, because that‘s how Gaga viewed it. That was the purpose to make it not so serious like her previous albums. It still has a big message, but not everyone can understand that, it‘s more about the artistry! ART and POP can belong together. I like the effort she put to work with Marina Abramovic and Jeff Koons, they really inspired her and teached her so many things and how to control her Aura. Different methods to free her mind. When watching her interviews and when she explains ARTPOP it is exactly what she has done, she represented what she wanted so perfectly. Not everyone has to like it, she made ARTPOP because of music, because of artistry, not because of money, sales or haters. Speaking of VENUS, Greek mythology and Ancient Greek Dance It represents the beauty of being a woman. the beauty of women. I think it's brilliant and still no one will ever make something like gaga, she's unique and individual, you can't compare her to somebody. She is where she is, in her place and somebody is in their place whether you like it or not. I respect her work, It's clearly something new and different, It has another energy (of love). Those who complain that her performances becoming worse and worse, I think you just don't get the main IDEA and purpose of this performance. You know she‘s not just another „POP ARTIST“ or whatever you call it. She‘s PERFORMANCE ARTIST and that is much more than you think, that is different and comparing her to Katy Perry or Kim Kardashian or whatever you name it, just doesn‘t make sense. If she wanted to create different kind of album with another message she would have done that. All in all, this is just my opinion and you don't have to accept it and agree with it. I prefer listening to Rock’n’Roll but that is what I had on mind since listening to ARTPOP, Gaga is the only artist that makes me love POP Music, and of course, I do like oldie but goldie Pop music, but just definitely not nowadays pop music. Have a good day! Expand

Artists like these should be honored for writing and producing almost every bit of the album without megahit songwriters and producers hired by the label. From start to finish, it is evident that Mother-Monster worked her ass off, both as a vocalist and a producer, she polished all 15 tracks to true 'Gaga-ness'. I must thank her for that. But I feel, to be completely honest that the lyrical content is not up to par, with what Lady Gaga is completely capable of.

I feel that this is a great dance album for all of Mother Monsters 'Little Monsters', from 'Aura' to 'Swine'. Then after that its starts to get slow. From 'Donatella' to 'Dope' it slows down completely, not saying they are bad songs, just not the songs you jam to at a party. Then with the last two songs 'Gypsy' and 'Applause' Gaga tries to bring back that dance party back and sort of achieves it. (Very smart to place 'Applause' at the end of the album btw!)

Must download: 'Aura', 'Venus', 'G.U.Y.', 'Sexxx Dreams', 'Do What U Want (ft. R.Kelly)', 'ARTPOP', 'Swine', 'Gypsy' and 'Applause'

ARTPOP is a mash of electronic sounds which is hard to listen. Though some of the songs are incredibly catchy! ARTPOP is again one of my favourite songs on the album simply beacuse of the importance to detail...you can hear gaga whining like heee heeee heee in the middle of her verse very retro again never got the lyrics in the beginning thought it was just a writers block kind of moment for her but now i like it... "the melody that you choose can rescue you"... she talks about letting your heart choose your artistic decisions and that will rescue you like ARTPOP. Swine ...whatever.... fun but not **** like schiesse or judas. DO NUTELLA .... loved this song from the time i heard it ....so **** bold. mindless therefore fun. beautiful detailing in
production. Fashion! reminds be of bowie but with nicer sounds around a bowie song... very simple song from lyrics perspective very mature from production side makes you wanna sing along . oh **** forgot about sexxx dreams... did you hear those **** beats ?? its like a 80s pop songs very pure no adulteration... lovely music . mary jane holland ...."cause i love love cause i love love" ..i only like that part otherwise i think its a bit over produced.

Dope has no reason being in this album... i hardly listen to it.

gypsy makes me feel emotional at times very nicely written song ...very bold too ...imai mai iam mai mai a gypseegypseegypsee aii ....very nicely and bravely written song .. sometimes a little springsteen esque like her edge of glory. but nice.

applause is one hell of a diva track... so **** artistic in its construction...never can another pop artist who is so commercial too come up with melodies , experimental beats and sounds like gaga .

but yes her lyrics didnt live up to being inspired from marina or jeff or watever but her synths and sounds are pathbreaking like always ... artpop should have been called POPARTY ... hahah something like that... pop + (art )+party?

Her vocals remain prominent on the album, coupled with strong electropop infuses that resemble that of '80s disco and dance pop. She aces with her choices of production collaborations (i.e. DJ White Shadown, Madeon and Zedd), but falls short on her vocal partnerships. Her collaboration with R. Kelly on Do What U Want (also her 2nd Single) soars beautifully, but her attempt at rap/trap with T.I., Too Short and Twista fails to impress and comes off stale. Some other tracks also tend to have good choruses and catchy hooks, but hinge on being messy and a tad too adventurous, ultimately making a few of them sound like a few songs in one. However, there are plenty of standout tracks that stand a chance at becoming Singles in future. Her self-produced Venus, and other tracks like Swine, Donatella and Gypsy definitely have radio hit potential. The success of or lack of, as some may dispute debut Single Applause resembles that of Bad Romance, and could indicate the direction of the rest of the album. Venus, as well as MANiCURE, could potentially mimic the hits that Poker Face and LoveGame respectively were in the Fame era, although to a lesser extent.

She does good walking away from the overly complex messages that were imbedded on the Born This Way album, but her classic rocker side still shouts out on this record, discreetly hidden behind the secondary dance pop queen she's supposed to be. Ballads Dope and Gypsy flaunt this potential. The overall flow of the album is, as usual, sleek as it transitions from [experimental] dance to commercial pop to ballads and finally, an apt ending with Applause. Lyrically, she again sways away from the conventional success of clichéd lines, but alienates the general crowd with lyrics that are difficult to relate to and would limit the potential of each track (case in point: Applause). While this album is generally palatable, it really is engineered more for her fans rather than the mainstream audience. It still is a strong album overall, with dance beats that will excite and tease the bass-loving crowds while maintaining the strange unique quality in most of her songs. Worth a full listen!

Standout Tracks: Venus, Do What U Want (ft. R. Kelly), Swine, Donatella, Applause

Aura 9.5/10 - I fell in love with this song when it was released as a lyric video on her VEVO channel. I bought this on iTunes when it became available. This was one of my favorite songs for an extended period of time. Now this is a very recommended song of mine.

Venus 9.2/10 - Now I completely love this song to death. VENUS! I listened to this song while playing my xbox on iTunes first look radio. I thought she was saying p*nis because of my turtle beaches on but I took them off one ear and heard VENUS!

G.U.Y. 10/10 - This is one of my favorite songs on the album!!! Aura being another. I love the music video to death!! So welly produced and looks amazing. I love this song and will always, its still my jam after almost a year.

Sexxx dreams 8/10 - This song is so good. I love this song and its one of those songs you is sexual but you don't care. I love it but don't really listen to it around family.

Jewels N' Drugs 7.1/10 - Now I'm not too in love with rap but I like this song. Now I like that Lady Gaga likes to step out of the bubble she was out in of pop and can go do rap.

MANiCURE 8.8/10 - I love this song and how it was produced. I love the background sounds (I don't know what to call it) and the lyrics are sexual but its ok.

Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly) 8.3/10 - Now you may listen to this song the first time and be like " what the hell she's saying to have sexual intercourse with her" but I see it as you can do what you want but the knowledge she has you can not manipulate.

Artpop 7.2/10 - I didn't really enjoy this song too much. I skip over it often just because the lyrics don't really hit me like the other songs. Now I'm not dry heaving at the mere sound of this song but its not like I will fight off a wave of skips just to listen to it. I love the melody of it though.

Swine 8.9/10 - I love the tempo of this song and lyrics are great. Now I love this song and listen to it (accidentally bought the clean version at first so had to rebuy it) but its great

(I feel bad for people who type a lot because my hands hurt at this point)

Donatella 7.8/10 - Now this is the point where I think this song is a filler. I don't have much shade to throw at this song but I don't love it.

Fashion! 8.2/10 - I do love this song and melody but Im not placing it one of my favorite. Its not just there but it has a presence. I love the lyrics and the tempo. Defiantly a great song by her.

Mary Jane Holland 7/10 - Worst song of artpop. Oh how I don't hate this song but its not my favorite but everyone has to have their least favorite. Now your least favorite may not be as low as a score as this song but everyone has a least favorite.

Dope 7.9/10 - I have nothing against this song which I interpret as her song about her drug addiction or a friend with one. But I do like this song.

Gypsy 8/10 - I do skip over this song a lot but its because I have to be in the mood to listen to this song but when I am I love it.

Applause 8.2/10 - Now I know this is a contender to Katy Perrys "Roar" but I cant listen to roar anymore. I cant do it. Its too overplayed on my part (just like the songs I like on Prism) but this song isn't due to its beat and lyrical genius put into it.

I say this is an impeccable album, Gaga shows us she has a mind like no other shining in originality.

Definitely the best album of Lady Gaga and the best album of the year. She went the extra mile in this album. A pity not have gone very well in the charts because it's much better than Prism

é tão mágico, inspirador e te leva a outro planeta de uma forma de tirar o folego.
É um album que você ouve do inicio ao fim sem pular sequer uma faixa. Apesar de ser mal aproveitado, não tira a qualidade de tal.

Why do I think ARTPOP deserved a Grammy?

We can say that ARTPOP is a mistake on Gaga's career but it is not. The album was one of the biggest conceptual works of all time. Obviously, it wasn't a perfect album, Gaga focused a lot on the promotional thing, on the promotional singles(Dope and Do What U Want(feat R. Kelly), and it actually worked, but the real thing was left behind, the concept of the album wasn't promoted. We had an album inspired by the old Romanticism, the art culture of the 1600's, and she had everything to make the ''album of the millenium'', but everything went wrong.
Start saying that it didn't had a good debut on the charts, the promotion of the songs was a total mess(DWUW video, for example), and then, the media started a big fight with Gaga, and it will be really hard for her to reborn from the pop culture ashes.

(And it would have been a big battle on the Grammys with Sam Smith)

HIGHLIGHTS: Venus, G.U.Y, Sexxx Dreams, Do What U Want, Artpop, Fashion!, Dope, Gypsy

Foxes é maravilhosa. Eu amo tudo o que ela faz, tudo bem feito, impecável. Coisa de artista de verdade, é uma pena ver que não tem o reconhecimento merecido.

A job well done but poorly worked. Despite having very well made songs like "Venus" has other poorly worked as "Applause" and besides that, Gaga decided this last before a good job. Nor gave much effort to their Singles and basically the only downside of this album is its low promotion and their bad Singles (except G.U.Y). Um álbum incrível a frente de seu tempo. A arte pura e fiel. Sem palavras para descrever tamanha genialidade. Lady Gaga se reinventa a cada novo projeto, e isso é um reflexo de sua mente brilhante e coração apaixonado, isso vemos em ARTPOP!

While it has its weak moments, ARTPOP is another solid addition to Lady Gaga's discography. Sure, it may not meet typical radio-friendly requirements, as her previous efforts, it stills stands out as one of the best pop records of 2013.

Fearless , this should be the name of this album . Without fear of technological innovations and vocals . A great album, however, far from being the best of it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    Pontos altos: Gypsy, Venus, Dope
Pontos baixos: Jewels N' Drugs, Sexxx Dreams, Aura

Un àlbum que té art, és fet pur artíticament, la producció electrónica és bona més les lletres i temes que descriu cada cançó i les fan originals, és acceptable.

This is definitive not Gaga's best album, but there is something about that "messy EDM" that we really must pay attention. Some songs like "Aura", "Venus", "Do What U Want" and "MANiCURE" are potential hits that deserved more success, by the way, I found a word for this album, a "potential one".

The melodies here are fine, they do a job, but nothing backs up Gag's Warholian rhetoric or scales the barmy heights of Bad Romance. [Jan 2014, p.116]

While it’s stronger than the messy ‘Born This Way’, Artpop feels little more culture-quaking than a good collection of fun, silly, well-crafted pop songs.

This is two albums in a row now that were basically a bit boring, and she needs to sort it out soonish please.
