In some ways, it is as an exercise in stripping away everything that makes The Flaming Lips such a truly special group, leaving only that which serves as decorative tinsel to their music, hanging limp and lifelessly in the air.

The result is a chaos of sound that leaves little direction for the listener.

I was a little reticent about purchasing it when I saw the initial reviews but I liked it immediately and it keeps drawing me back in. It is an excellent blend of Yoshimi melodicism and Terror experimentalism. My first 2017 purchase and I believe this will make my top 10 at the end of year. If you like Flaming Lips you will not be disappointed. Full Review »

Fine, experimental, innovative sound in tradition of psychedelic and progressive rock tradition, with interplay of guitars, electronics and WCFine, experimental, innovative sound in tradition of psychedelic and progressive rock tradition, with interplay of guitars, electronics and WC vocals up front. The rhythms are soft and composition builds up (too) slowly, it reminds me of ambient electronic with vocals. I leave aside the lyrics, that's another matter, I am concerned with the ambient that the music creates. Btw, I was pissed off by the end of the year lists with all the hype on rap and mostly empty pop and bling soul with total overlook of rock, experimental and electronic music. Here is a fine example of fresh sound from that direction. Full Review »
