The Black Parade is about a hospital patient who is about to die, and how death is dealt with, among other things. What I think howver, is that the patient is symbolic of the old MCR, because thier music and overall presentation has made a dramatic turn. They have effective created thier own style of rock music that can be categorized under no current musical genre. They sport a more maturured, and significantly better sound than thier previous albums (particularly Gerard's vocals), which I was not particularly a huge fan of, though I did enjoy some of the songs. However, EVERY track on TBP is amazing. From the anthem "Welcom to the Black Parade" to the almost humorous, apologetic folk song that is "Mama" and stretching to the haunting, yet strong-willed final cry that is "Famous Last Words" Truly a masterpiece that belongs among the ranks of the top albums ever. But I'm still going to give them credit for coming up with their own music and the lively and energetic performance they did. As if there aren't worse bands! Think Simple Plan, Linkin Park and Good Charlotte. These are all overly commercialised and overrated bands! Not to mention whiny and uses the usual subjects to capture the audience(bombs iraq and teenage 'depression'). MCR is different from them. They do not come up with whiny lyrics that anyone can come up with to easily capture a teenagers heart. Gerard's vocals are lively and the 'screams' are not everywhere but is where it should be. Comparing with old bands is just as childish as other bands are even more tasteless that they might not have heard of Iron maiden. To say they copied is out of the topic, MCR has been fans of the misfits iron maiden and queen, it's quite possible tht their music are similar to these bands because they are inspired by them. Therefore to be fair, I'm judging this album BY the album itself. Whatever I said previously is to explain why the bad reviews from some unknown magazines are wrong. Expand

It's a glorious, glorious record. We need look no further than the first song, fittingly Titled "The End," to see MCR's ambition laid bare. MCR does something bizarrely cocky. They take the first song off of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, "Five Years," and fuse it with the first song off of Pink Floyd's The Wall, "In the Flesh?" and they fuse them together. And they aren't hiding it. They want you to know it. It's blatantly obvious... the verses copy Floyd, the chorus is Bowie, the general song structure is Bowie, the bombast is Floyd. And it works. It works really, really well. Perhaps I appreciate the acheivement of "The Black Parade" because I am 41 and I can appreciate everything they are calling on in their work, but this is my favorite album of 2006, and I listen to a lot of music -- prior to hearing this album, my favorite 2006 CDs were Deerhoof, Tapes N Tapes, and Decemberists... just to show you where my tastes generally lie -- not in the Emo genre -- that's usually the stuff my 13 year old daughter is discovering. I had thought genre defying and genre defining albums were a thing of the past. I heard the song "welcome to the black parade" last month on the radio. Something about the opening verse, the references to his father, and death, jerked emotions out of me that had been buried since my own father passed away. Images of my own little son flashed before my eyes. I was *affected* by the song, touched in parts of my soul I'd forgotten about. So I bought the album. And I discovered something. This is one of those great albums I mentioned above. One of those albums without a single bad track. No...that's not strong enough. It's one of those albums in which every track is brilliant, ever track fits, and every track does exactly what is was supposed to and communicates exactly what the author felt. Compare Fleetwood Mac's Rumors, or (as everyone else is) PInk Floyd's The Wall. Thanks, MCR, for letting me experience this again. And to the young'uns out there: enjoy this. The first four tracks are for the fans who wanted more "Three Cheers", but the rest is pure unadulterated rock in an entirely new, entirely impressive vein. Take it from someone who hated MCR prior to "The Black Parade" -- this is their best effort to date, and one of the best albums in recent memory.

I think this album successfully mixes Queen, Screamo and 80s power ballads. I'm usually one of those snob critics taht doesnt like anything I didn't discover but I have to give this album credit. Kids in the mall might like this, that doesnt necessarily make it suck. It sounds good pretty much start to finish and has lasted in my playlist for a couple months.

Not emo at all. With things like, "I am not afraid to keep on living" it is a message of hope. Sure they are... not so good live, but the message and the album is solid. Only reason why it's not a 10 is since I could live without ever hearing mama again. ugh. if they only put out that killer b-side "Kill all your friends" (pun intended).

Having seen the Beatles on Ed Sullvan in 1964 at the age of 9 it seems harder and harder to find an album I want to play over and over after the first listen (Include some GBV Muse Radiohead). This thing kicks like a mule while being poignent and pointed. I wish my classic rock listening fellow fifty somethings would leave their doors open to let these boys blow in.

I am 46 years old and bought this CD based on a New York Times article. I'm not panting over Gerard Way's looksand I have no dog in the emo-indie-etc. fight, in other words. This CD blew me away completely with its theatricality, musicality and poignancy. Yes, some reminders of Green Day, Queen and Bowie, but in a good way. Catchy, humorous and raucous--who could ask for anything more?

This album is truly outstanding. A concept album that most people can relate to at some point. Tracks like 'Cancer' and 'Welcome to the Black Parade' are full of emotion and story, where as 'Mama' and 'House of Wolves' are full of instrumental power. The best album by My Chemical Romance. The Black Parade perfectly showcases the musical talents, innovative style and almost wacky theatrics of the band. Mama and Blood are examples of some parts maybe sounding slightly too similar to each other, but it features many songs which provoke different emotions to the one before and that is something not many artists can do a heartless b*stard like me.

i think most of us came across The Black Parade when we were in our first teen years. for me it was during my 15s, i was going through the worst times of my life, struggling with depression, s*lf-h*rm, and addiction. can i say this album helped me? not at all... it made me even more miserable, it worsened everything i was going through and i would frequently listen to it when i was having really bad su*cial thoughts. but i loved this album, it made me feel alive in a way no other could ever.

after getting better i knew couldn't keep listening to it - i would feel like relapsing. so for the next 3 years, i avoided listening to any MCR. i'm now 18, the scars still remain both literally and metaphorically, but i'm in such a better place. last week i gave the album a relisten, after all these years without listening to a single pop-punk song, and i'm honestly so surprised. not only did i dance to it in a way i never ever did before, but i felt like the tracks haven't aged a single bit. it keeps being the masterpiece 15-year-old me ever consider it - and my music taste is completely different now. somehow, for me, this album is still one of the best albums ever made, despite me not even listening much to pop-punk or even alternative rock.

this was not really a review, but more of my personal experience with this album. but i can assure you that i would still keep the rating this high even without considering personal subjectivity and closeness to this record. THE SONGS SIMPLY SLAP AND THE ALBUM'S ALMOST IMMACULATE. WOW...

The reason it isn't a perfect album is because it's a concept album. It is about a character called the patient, and the death of the patient, and the story is very difficult to decipher through the lyrics and content in the album. Although the story is sometimes clear, some of the album seems to have nothing to do with the story at all. However, the album isn't just a story, so the story doesn't entirely affect the score I give it

The black parade is one of the most underrated and amazing albums that I have ever seen in my life. Definitely recommended.
