Though their influences are neatly displayed almost in the same way band posters are hung neatly on a bedroom wall: Cheap Trick, Kiss, Thin Lizzy, The Cars, The Ramones, just about any great power-pop or classic rock band, White Reaper effortlessly make their influences solely their own.

It’s the whole package that matters here, and taken together, The World’s Best American Band has the elements of one of the year’s best rock albums.

While it’s fair to wonder if they can ever top it, their growth from record to record indicates that they may indeed have another even higher gear.

Yes, this album is a turophile's dream, but only the most black-hearted cynic could resist joining the party. [No. 141, p.61]

The World’s Best American Band is mixed significantly louder than anything else you’re probably listening to right now and it’s equally glittery and gritty like a blood-caked switchblade—far more polished than the similarly indebted Sheer Mag, but with more edge to rule out any comparisons to the ’70s LARPing of Free Energy.

There are not a lot of surprises; White Reaper mostly stays in its lane, risking redundancy on some lesser tracks (“Daisies”). But the hooks are relentlessly strong.

It never quite overstays its welcome during its brisk 30 minutes, though once it approaches its more redundant second half, it’s hard to make out whether they’re paying homage to their heroes or if they’re gearing up for a nostalgic tribute tour.

On The World's Best American Band, White Reaper knock it out of the park, drive over it in a noisy Mustang, and deliver nothing but a good time.

Consistently cheeky, head-throbbing rock ("Judy French," "Party Next Door") meets shimmering melodies ("Little Silver Cross," "Daisies") that alleviate without losing momentum.

The World’s Best American Band is all about cutting loose and having a blast via the method of catchy guitar-based rock & roll tunes--simple, direct and oh so very effective.
