Dec 3, 2011An amazing album. Every song is special in a way. The new drummer did an awesome job on this album, especially in Lost Not Forgotten and Bridges in the Sky. The voice work and all the instruments are awesome too. Lost Not Forgotten and Breaking All Illusions are now instant classics from Dream Theater.

Jul 10, 2013Great album. The drum sound is a bit lacking compared to other DT releases, but the performances by everyone remain solid, and the new drummer is pretty good. No song is too long and there's plenty of progressive stuff along with some heavy riffing and soloing by the always talented John Petrucci. 8.5 out of 10;

Nov 19, 2018I don't know why this album is rated that low. Technically is one of their best albums and you have great melodies and vocals too. Bridges in the Sky, Outcry and Breaking all Illusions are one the best songs they've produced in a long time.

Kerrang!Oct 25, 2011As ever, they do a fine job here juggling endless solos among intricate vocal passages and harmonies. [Sep 2011, p.51]

Oct 13, 2011The unfortunate harm that has come with Portnoy's dismissal is that the drum sections are now entirely bland and lack any real power. This combined with the band's decision to include three ballads are really the only things wrong with A Dramatic Turn of Events.

Oct 13, 2011A Dramatic Turn of Events, while not a perfect offering, has enough of what makes Dream Theater attractive to make it a necessary purchase for fans.
