I really like Archy Marshall's smooth transition from singer/songwriter into producer. A lot of these tracks are dissonant and echo a dystopic atmosphere prominently featured in his last lp.

(8.5/10). This album doesn't try to be something it isn't. It sits in the background, it is comfortable there. It is unassuming and undemanding. The perfect accompaniment to that transient late night mood that leaves you sitting back with your eyes closed, not noticing half the album has drifted away. A very different album to 6 feet, more consistently executed but less marketable.(8.5/10). This album doesn't try to be something it isn't. It sits in the background, it is comfortable there. A NEW PLACE 2 DROWN by Archy Marshall is like a soundtrack 2 my life. This smoothness how one track goes from one to another also deep and uniqe atmosphere.

Lax ambient vapour wave with just enough existential dread and sarcasm to illicit it's title's sardonic suggestion. The just 19yr savant sounds fully formed and confident as he lulls us through his grey dreamscape.

If this is a window to his world, we can barely see a thing. [Mar 2016, p.76]

It may ultimately be a footnote in his prolific career, but the album's restrained, nuanced intelligence is a testament to Marshall's pure talent and compelling persona.

It's early morning or late-night music, and more than capturing a specific place and aimless time, A New Place 2 Drown is a soundtrack for a slowed-down pace of life.
