A lack of vulnerability in the lyricism is the downfall of this effort from the UK Hip Hop artist. Euro-dance beats and generic rhythms blend together to create a forgettable album with absolutely no heart. This album is all fluff about “poppin’ bottles” & “Diamonds on my neck” and has no substance that gives you any insight to what makes AJ Tracey special. 3 out of 10

AJ manages to make an album with variety. While a lot of UK albums can suffer from being unoriginal or repetitive, he makes an record that truly sounds unique to him. Solid debut.

Ultimately, that’s what it all comes down to: not necessarily violence, but feeling. That feeling when a tune hits you right in the chest, connects to you in a visceral way, spreading bubbles across your skin like spilt champagne. That feeling, so brilliantly conveyed by AJ Tracey on this album, of no longer just surviving but actually living.

The MC born Ché Wolton Grant is on fire, yet in some danger of losing his individuality.

Tracey ensures the album links the UK urban music’s past and present. Which of the mixed bag of styles deployed on AJ Tracey will be further investigated in the future remains a mystery. What is clear is that he has talent and star power for days—talents that could have been better showcased here.
