  1. A gorgeous and moving collection of love songs.
  2. Her music-box arrangements have a child-like giddiness about them, but this collection of glittering songs has an emotional and sonic maturity that will keep you listening long past bedtime.
  3. Since her voice is clear and lovely, the songs are tuneful without being flashy, and the production is quiet, subtly layered, George makes All Rise seem easy, and it's only when the record is over that it dawns on you what a rich, rewarding album it is.

It sounds a bit like a female Elliott Smith and certainly more than the sum of its genes. [Aug 2006, p.112]

Her woodwind-like voice and lucid sensiblity are hardly weird, but Andrews pushes her toward a dreamy and daring edge. [Apr 2005, p.117]
  6. George has an indistinct voice somewhere between Suzanne Vega and Cat Power. Her lyrics are not mind-blowing, but not at all banal.
  7. Magnet

All Rise flitters about like an overly melodramatic actor: it might be pretty, but it offers little more than monotony. [#67, p.97]

I really love her vocal style, clear and fresh. Nice to hear Jackson Browne in background on the one track. Will look for more of hers in the future.

Gorgeous songs and a truly distinct sounding record. I find the critics' comparisons to be lazy since the songwriting and classic Gorgeous songs and a truly distinct sounding record. I find the critics' comparisons to be lazy since the songwriting and classic arrangements are far beyond the daily grind of contemporary singer/songwriter melodrama. Expand

The songs, both original and covers, are amazing, especially when her unique and lovely voice begins to toy with them. Terrific and surprising.

I'm mighty impressed by this debut from Inara George. Her voice is clear, the lyrics smart and the musicianship excellent.
