Amen is an overall well-rounded debut project for Brian. Ever since Dat $tick, his breakout single, I've always enjoyed listening to most of the new material he's come out with (especially Glow Like Dat and See Me). While some of the songs on this album are just objectively bad (i.e.: Kitty and Little Prince), there are too many highlights on this album to ignore. While some of the songs on this album are just objectively bad (i.e.: Kitty and Little Prince), there are too many highlights on this album to ignore. Cold, Trespass, Introvert ft. Joji, Occupied, Enemies, Flight, the list goes on and on. My main gripe that keeps it back from a higher score is how overall, Brian's tone and voice never change. It's always the same exact delivery and tone of voice, on every song. After a while, it gets pretty old. But the new beats and the multiple features are what kept me interested. Expand

The album is admirably fire, yet his flow and storyteller are the greatest skill here. Also the instrumentals of this album is really fresh and well done, proving that Brian isn't just a great humoristic rapper but a great producer too.

“The overriding, inescapable, and most important aspect of ‘Amen,’ though, is that it is fun. Fun to listen to, fun (it seems) to have made and no doubt fun to perform.” — Clash Music

While Brian isn't a bad rapper (arguably quite a decent one), his flow isn't overly impressive and his tone is not enjoyable to me. The beats are not awful, but they really do not mesh well with his style in my opinion. Still not that great though. Expand

Masterpiece. I really enjoy the also as a hole project and can't wait to listen more music coming from Rich Brian.

Rich Brian's new album 'Amen' is almost a cohesive rap release. Despite having one of the most successful singles of 2016 with 'Dat $tick', all of the factors which put him in the spotlight are absent here, from the smooth flows to the laid-back style.

What an amazing album. His flows are consistently fire! He is really progressing and I can't wait to see what future will bring him

That little Brian didn't even know he found himself in the spotlight. However he thought it was an interesting idea to craft an entire album to pursue his money dreams. Surely not his best idea.

Production is dead-repetitve, unoriginal, flat, colorless, really simple and industrial. This however perfectly suits the dull tone of his voice. After three tracks it felt like I heard

Production is dead-repetitve, unoriginal, flat, colorless, really simple and industrial. This however perfectly suits the dull tone of his voice. After three tracks it felt like I heard everything 'Amen' could provide me. Brian's flow and lyrics delivery is terrible. And he made zero effort on it, he didn't even try to craft something attractive. I was excepting something different of this never-ending America-made (t)rap songs and Brian, coming straight from Jakarta, looked amazing on the paper. He sadly ends up trying to be like his american idols. I guess he especially loved to work with Offset. Niki, however, brings an impressive breath of fresh air with her beautiful voice lost in the middle of this over-represented male album. There are some interesting word games but Brian (yeah sorry I simply can't call him Rich) ruins it all by his impressive flatness. He would have had so much to rap about if he focused more on his education and his real daily life rather than to try to be someone else.

There is by no means dazzling wordplay, vivid storytelling or smash hits to be indulged through Amen but there are some strong beats courtesy of the man himself.

There is very little happening within his verses right now, and even as he’s pivoted toward the personal, he’s still doing impressions, sonically and stylistically.

Rich Brian didn’t need to go so hard with the image change, but as far as debut albums go, Amen is catchy, it’s not gimmicky, it’s not annoying, and there’s just enough Chigga still in there to keep things entertaining.
