This is a pleasant listen, while a more mature sound, this record has got hints of the modern indie folk sound that Thomas Bartlett and The National have helped spread to the mainstream via the likes of Taylor Swift. Extremely listenable, easy to immerse yourself in and then just as easy to forget. It's good without being earth shattering like 99% of releases.

Anais Mitchell is a thoughtful and caring song writer and it shines through in spades on this album.

Her voice and writing is like being wrapped up in a warm embrace, and being assured that everything will be ok...

    I'm giving it a strong 8

Hadestown may have gained her success through her successful harnessing of external inspiration but by turning attention inwards on this occasion she’s delivered one of the quietly outstanding albums of the year.

With her lowkey yet glistening collection of songs, she jumps back into the light with clearheaded confidence and a more mature outlook.

What songs they are: melodious, wise, elegantly understated but emotionally resonant.
